Jeff Garcia to Jets: Get rid of Tebow now

    http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/stor...ease-tim-tebow

From the moment he entered the NFL, Tim Tebow has sought advice on his throwing mechanics from various quarterback gurus.

It's probably safe to eliminate Jeff Garcia from a list of potential teachers.

The former NFL quarterback, who has spent the last few weeks introducing New York Jets incumbent Mark Sanchez to the West Coast offense, blasted Tebow -- a Jets backup -- in an interview with USA Today.

Garcia said the Jets should release or trade Tebow before Monday, the start of the team's offseason program.

"If there's going to be competition at the quarterback position, it's not going to come from Tim Tebow," Garcia told the newspaper in San Diego, where he works as a quarterback instructor. "Having Tebow there (last season) just became a distraction, more of a circus show.

"It's their decision, but from an outsider looking in, having Tebow there doesn't bring anything positive. It just brings distraction. For Mark, the main competition is going to be David Garrard and Greg McElroy."

Tebow is planning to attend the Jets' voluntary workouts, a source said, even though he's not in their 2013 plans, creating a potentially awkward situation.

The Jets have been trying to trade Tebow, a non-factor last season, but no team has publicly acknowledged any interest in the popular backup. If they can't trade him before or during the draft, the Jets are expected to release him.

The Jets have declared the quarterback position an open competition. Sanchez has held the starting job for four years, but he regressed last season and was benched for the first time in his career.

Looking to add competition, they signed Garrard, who hasn't played since 2010. They also could draft a quarterback.

The new offensive coordinator is Marty Mornhinweg, who is installing a West Coast system. Garcia, one of his former quarterbacks, was hired by Sanchez to teach the basic principles, terminology and footwork required of a passer in the offense.

Sanchez, who lives in Orange County, Calf., has been driving to San Siego about twice a week to meet with Garcia. They do some field work, but most of the time is spent in the classroom.

Clearly, Garcia believes his pupil would be better off if Tebow isn't around when Sanchez rejoins his teammates next week.

"When you're a quarterback, you don't need artificial competition and it's not fair to Tim to put him through that," Garcia said. "If there's a place for Tim that gives him a chance to be a contributor in an offense with another team, let him go be that guy."

I'm not at all in for giving Sanchez a clear path to being a starter, but Garcia is right - dump Tebow. It's better for the team. I think it'll happen, but for us who have no "in the know", it's excruciating hearing his name as a Jet.

If Tebow can guarantee distraction to Mark Sanchez, im all for keeping him a Jet. It would be a huge setback to the franchise to see Mark improve to a level where he could win the team a few games by himself in 2013 just to mes up the 2014 draft slotting.

Jetsfreak and ray ray will be in here shortly to let us all know that the Jets are handling the Tebow disaster perfectly.

Tebow has no business on the roster at this point. He's going to get released and nobody is trading for him. At this point get rid of the distraction. Garcia is 100% correct. Let the QB's who are actually going to be here in 2013 begin the battle w/o Tebow as a distraction.

COMMON - Jets fans know that the "brain trust" is trying to get back their magic beans. Timmy can wait until after the draft.

Hey Jeff - thanks for the assist.

Tebow is no different than any other poor back up QB in this league. He's not some big distraction other than having the fans and media lather themselves up. The front office still feels he is an asset they are hoping to get some late round pick for and there is no reason to move him at this time. If some teams 1st workouts show they have an injury or terrible play at Qb then all of a sudden he might garner a late pick from some team with a lot of extra picks.

Idzik just being smart once again. hold onto the asset until you absolutely must make a move and then cut him then if need be.

Um, that is the definition of a distraction you know, right? "He's not a distraction except for the times when he is a distraction".

    Also - Garcia is gay.

"A guy who doesn't even play"? What does that mean?

No, because a distraction to the fans and media is not important at all. A distraction to the team and other QB's is. A team that gets distracted by the wailing's of us fans on fan forums and the likes of Cimini are not worth their salt anyway. Tebow was zero distraction for Mark Sanchez last year. Zero.

He's right. Tebow brings nothing to the team, he's not an NFL player. And we're not getting a draft pick for him, that's absurd

Why not wait it out out until the last minute? It doesn't hurt the Jets.

The same reason you flush a toilet when its full of turd. Sure, it doesn't hurt to leave it in there, but just do it out of decency.

Garcia is being paid by Sanchez and so he feels that he knows what's best for the Jets moving forward ?

Garcia is hoping to get lots of future business if he can resurrect Sanchez's career. He will blame Tim Tebow if Mark continues to spiral downwards.

Does he seriously think that David Garrard and Greg McElroy are going to be Mark Sanchezs' only competition in this upcoming training camp ?

Some kid will be drafted this year and either him or David Garrard will likely beat out Mark Sanchez in camp. In Garrard can stay healthy, I put my money on him.

Because these people are not prudent GM material. A good gm never lets his personal feelings for a player get in the way of what is best for the team.
