Jax - I could see them taking a QB (talking heads are saying Nassib)
SF - no way
Eagles - fair chance, but I wouldn't be surprised if they passed
Lions - no
Bengals - no
Cards - chance of a guy to develop longer term, but I've read they like their downfield guys so Smith doesn't strike me as a fit
... then us. So if Geno makes it past Jax, he could be there for us at #39. Barring trade ups, of course. Though I can't see many teams that strongly NEED a QB still.
Question is, if Smith is there, do we bite? I'm starting to think that we do. I wouldn't hate the move - even though there's a lot of talent on the board at other positions. I think it would be good value, question is the risk / reward over taking a TE / S / WR that is more likey to pan out.
If he's there, I think we will take him.
If Geno is there, he should definitely be a serious consideration for us. Word is Bradway and Mornhinweg liked him when they met him and were impressed by his workout. He is a risk no doubt, but the talent is clearly there to make it worth pulling the trigger at 39 if the Jets truly like him.
For me, it's a TE (Ertz), WR, Geno or maybe an OG. D can wait its turn this time around.
how can you compare without specifying the draft round? For example, I'd want Wilson or Bray in the 4th well before Geno in the 2d. Dysert in the 6th before Geno in the 2d or Wilson in the 4th. It all depends on value. And I'm not high on Naseeb in general, but he won't be there in the 4th, so I'm not interested. If you're talking about 2d round for any of them, I guess I'll pass and wait to 2014.
And with only one guy gone so far we may get decent value.
True, the fact that only one QB went in the first and it wasn't even one that most people were expecting to just goes to show you that 99.9% of mock draft projections are incorrect. Not to mention the fact that the Jets had supposedly been linked to Warmack, Jordan, Mingo, Jones, etc. and took 2 players almost nobody was expecting us to (even though the Richardson selection isn't well liked).
If Geno is there, I take him. I'm a big fan of letting the new coach next year hand-pick his guy with our Top 5 pick, but I don't think taking a QB in the 2nd round would affect that...he wouldn't hamstring decisions down the round financially or politically like a QB taken in the top 15 picks.
If Geno sucks, draft a new stud next year. If he's great, we're set.
Overall, I think need would meet value with Geno at #39.
