If by "they" is meant the Jets, I am totally inclined to believe that. Milliner came out of left field and looked like the result of a board blowing up. So did them taking the entire five minutes to decide. It was kind of a shock to see Cooper go that fast and I bet they were caught by surprise.

Copper and Star were my dream picks. Apparently they didn't like something about Star.....

once Cooper went off the board, the next best guy to me was Milliner. When Cooper got drafted i lost interest in the 1st round.

I tried to articulate that idea in this other post from another thread...

Next best thing is getting teams to trade ahead of you for a position you aren't going to take, in hopes of pushing Cyprien down.

    One can hope.

See my post. so in other words, they tried to generate enough buzz about QBs, Mingo, Tavon in hopes of triggering trades ahead of them to push Cooper down. they could be doing this again today in hopes of pushing someone down today.

Because the Jets showed no public interest in Cooper leading up the the draft. I am not even sure he visited with them.

He never did. I clearly remember posting in the draft visits thread about how Chance Warmack was visiting the Jets and Tony Pauline said they had no visits scheduled with Cooper.

I took that as they liked him, but didnt wanna tip their hand. Same with Mingo

Not if they were serious about Ivory. That would be some truly elite level smoking going on to pre-plan that.

I think Cyprien, Woods or Nassib (god help us) is more likely.

I read Tavon would've been the pick at 9. The report last night was Dee and Sheldon were two of their top four. Other two were Tavon and Cooper.
    Board probably looked like this:

    1. Tavon
    2. Cooper
    3. Dee
    4. Sheldon

On ESPN Sal Paolantonio reported the following:

    1. Scouts told Paolantonio that Milliner is "not a shutdown corner," nor is he a "Pro Bowl level talent."

    2. Milliner is not healthy now and might not be ready by the start of camp.

    3. Stated that the draft was Idzik's call "all the way," and that Idzik is conservative and will not (and did not) deviate from his board.

    4. The Jets target was 100% Austin and when he went, Milliner was the next guy on the board.

Its same as the 1st two tackles taken, didn't seem much separation between them either. Im not knocking the pick, I like Dee pick better than Richardson. Not because I don't like Richardson, hes a beast but there is still some very good value in 2nd rd we could probably have taken like the Tank..

Cooper sounded like a better fit for the Jets Zone Blocking scheme which MM reportedly is going back to...

I'm told by several people the New York Jets were hoping Jonathan Cooper/G/North Carolina fell to them at pick 9...
