Actually, since he was brought up in the south it's pretty much how any kid is taught to speak to an adult. And I think it's a little presumptuous to think that all young people say "sir" to their elders b/c it's the "cool" thing to do.

you guys are hillarious. wake up and get in tune with whats going on today. Cats arent saying it to be respectful. Saying it because every hip hop "star" says it at least 19 times in each interview they give. Then another couple times in the intro of their garbage songs. The sh*t is fuggin annoying thats all

Geno seems like a fine young man with a good head on his shoulders. I just home they surround him with skilled players so he can have a chance to show who he is.

you obliviously don't live in the south. In every neighborhood in Houston, we hold doors and and thank you or yes, Sir or Ma'am. Regardless of socioeconomic status, race, creed or age, PERIOD!

And kids are taught to say Miss and then the ladies first name, like Miss Lynne or Miss Mary. I'm Mr. Tim to a lot of kids. It's kind of neat, in the fact they call me by my first name but respectfully so. When I was a kid growing up North, I thought having to say Mr. Smith or Mr. Jones was so formal.

Great point. One of the more surprising things I noticed when I first went to college in the South was the use of Yes Sir, Yes Ma'am when addressing and responding to your elders. Its a great sign of respect and politeness that I actually started using, something my kids here up North use as well.
