I know the Rams trading up probably didn't think the Jets were going to take Tavon Austin just from the tweets, but it seems that all the leaks about what players the Jets like come from Rex. Mingo "Rex smitten with Mingo".

I have to feel like more ambiguity would have helped. Rex can't help himself. A CIA operative, he is not.
Yes he has a big mouth and shoukdn't say anything that can tip the Jets hand when drafting. It ruins their level of leverage.

Simply put, he should put a foot in his mouth.

Rex had a plan for gholston. Rex was very well behaved all though the proceedings. Seeing him sitting quietly beside Idzik at the press conference was refreshing

So we can either go to team making changes for the better all around and who was in 2 championship games 2 years ago or to a team that has SUCKED for over a decade....nah that does not sound like logic to me...oh that team called the rams is also questionable at QB also.....ouch.

Rumour starts that Jets like Austin
Austin & his agents want no part of the worst offense in the NFL
Austin & his agents leak that Jets are VERY keen, sure fire thing to take him at 9 ... to force another team to trade up and take him before 9

Rex pretty much has had his mouth sut even before last season ended but you are right, I like how he is...he knows he got a new lease on life and he will focus on coaching the team and defense...I can deal with that.

Ryan's fingerprints are all over the Jets' picks. That's a problem, considering his past personnel failures and his status as what amounts to a lame-duck head coach.

The man the Jets took ninth overall, Dee Milliner, has had five surgeries. The significance of that can't be minimized. I didn't think he was the best player available in a group that included Smith, Floyd, Chance Warmack, D.J. Fluker, Tyler Eifert and Star Lotulelei.

Taking Sheldon Richardson at No. 13 made no sense, especially when Floyd and Lotulelei were still there at the DT position.

And the Jets could've used some help on offense
The 5-surgeries for Dee Milliner and supposed greatness of Floyd were media creations heading into the draft.

1st round picks are about game-changers (if they're available) and value. Milliner was good value at 9 because he's the best CB prospect in this draft.

On Richardson - I don't doubt Rex. Just like I didn't doubt him when we took Coples over Melvin Ingram - who doesn't look like a very good pro.

Here's what some other personnel folks said about Floyd:

Two separate NFL scouts say Florida DT Sharrif Floyd is overrated, with one going so far as to call Floyd a media creation.
It's worth noting Floyd had only 4.5 sacks in three college seasons. He's been touted hard by Greg Cosell, Mike Mayock, and Daniel Jeremiah, among others. "Those idiots on TV made Floyd," said one scout. "He's not that good. He's not better than Ziggy Hood." Asked if the Warren Sapp comparisons are valid, another scout replied "No. There's none of that. (Sapp) was just was more gifted than Floyd. Floyd is a good effort player. He's got shorter arms than (Sheldon) Richardson, and I think it shows. He gets kind of Velcroed on blockers."

So now not only do we get mad at picks we made, we guess who the jets really wanted, just know that they weren't sending out mixed signals?

All because a player tweeted something.

WTF, just enjoy who we got.

That's not Rex's fault, the kid should have had enough sense to realize that that was a private conversation he should have just kept it to himself until the draft was over.

That's the kind of thing Austin should have talked about in a post draft interview, not before the draft.
