WHen I was ten, my dumbass dog disappeared and we later found out he was hit by a car (my neighbor found him on the side of a nearby expressway).

Outside of my father dying in my arms, nothing has shook me more.

I think I've resisted getting one as an adult because of that memory.

    Plus my wife hates dogs.

Our 14 year old sheepdog had to be put down last year my kids were 7 and 4 and they still talk about how she is in a better place. They will be sad but they will handle it a lot better than you think they would.

Absolutely, you deserve the right to mourn the loss of a great companion. I hope you get good news tomorrow.

It's gotta be more than 10 times now that green has failed with the ole Statue of Liberty / rectum / colonoscopy jokes! Like usual it just blows up in his face.

when mine goes down this week he'll be the third dog we've had die of old age in the last year and a half. it sucks, TERRIBLY, but your body goes into self defense mode to protect itself. you'll get through it. i find myself asking why I'm not more distraught when going through it, and feel guilty.

    I hate these threads.

Sincere thoughts are with neevs and Timmy, and their little friends.

When our dog died years ago the kids were 6 and 10, I built a pine box for the dog and buried the dog in the woods on our property with stone marker. It helped with the closure and all of us cried. Dogs are family and when they are gone we lose something forever.
