Who wins the QB competition, based on what whe know today?

We should do this again closer to camp but for now...

Garrard- Hasn't played in 2 years, no relationship with the team\players
    Smith - Raw, needs time
McElroy - Had hopes for him but after seeing him play last year, not so much
    Simms - Who?
Face it, Sanchez looks good in practice, don't see how he can lose

    Geno.

I don't buy that he is too raw.

Ryan Tannehill had 774 career pass attempts in college.
Geno had 1465 pass attempts in his college career.

Tannehill completed 61 percent of his passes in his senior year.
    Geno completed 71.2 percent.

Not making an argument that Geno is a better prospect, just that he is not raw. Geno was a 3 year starter at a big time program.

    Smith or Garrard.

    There's no other candidate.

Sit Geno for a year. Sanchez starts, and rebuilds his value.

Sanchez will be and should be the starter. Guys on this board are way over the top on Smith, there is a reason why he lasted until pick 39. When is the last time a big time QB came from West Virgina. This guy will be a below average NFL QB.

What do we, anyone, know today?

Garrard hasn't played in two years, Geno is a rookie and Sanchez sucks.

Was reading that no one sent scouts to watch Smith because as you said, no QB's ever come out of WV. Proving that he will be below average.

    Really?

Sanchez. No question. But for any other reason than being a good QB.

If Mark continues where he left off and stinks it up on opening day, who should start Week 2 at New England?

Garrard won the starting job in Miami last year. It's not like he hasn't played at all. He got hurt, but not badly hurt like some people seem to want you to believe. He got banged up, and while he was out the rookie stole his job. He would have been back to start the season. Garrard will win the job. He'll get injured at some point, and if it's early, Sanchez will fill in, and if it's later Geno will overtake Sanchez by the mid point. The best thing, and most likely based on Garrard's track record is that he misses some time early, and late so we get to see them both. Then Marty can make Sanchez look good enough to get a pick for him, and Geno can have a chance to steal the job later in the year.

I think it will be Geno, simply because he's much more talented than hotdog butt.

Same reason Brady lasted to the 6th, Montana the third, and Farve till the 2nd. Romo was undrafted. Russel was the first overall for the Raiders, and unanimous can't miss prospect. Have you watched any film on Geno? He has the tools. We won't know how good he is for a couple years. You probably won't ever know.

The "competition" isn't one. It will be rigged from the start, for a number of reasons, from saving face, to giving Sanchez his last chance, to Rex's "my guys" thing, to pure and simple money.

Sanchez will "win" the competition, and start most of 2013.

    Gerrard will be the backup.

Gino Smith will be the #3 QB.

If (when) Sanchez plays as horribly as he usually does, and the season is lost, then Sanchez will be benched permently. Smith will get 2-3 end-of-year pressure-free starts, Gerrard will be the #2.

Sanchez will be gone at seasons end as a URFA.

Gerrard may/may not be retained to provide veteran backup insurence.

And Gino Smith will be the Jets starter for 2014.

Sanchez will look good in a well run WC offense. We've seen his true character so I don't really want him as our future, but I think he'll look good enough to trade him. He could beat out Garrard, but I still don't think he will.

Garrard starts because he's the best and most experienced QB right now. Geno watches and learns from the sideline for at least the early part of the year. McElroy stands next to Geno in street clothes and helps him chart the plays and read the game. Sanchez heads off to a backup gig elsewhere earns a nice living backing up a better QB.

There is not a single actual reason to start Sanchez again. He has no ability, no confidence, fans HATE him, he can't throw a swing pass or a screen, he is an interception machine, he fumbles if breathed on too hard, and he is a lame duck. But let's trot him out there again. Brilliant

Look Sanchez will start because he will be the better QB at the start of training camp.

Gerard is 35+ and he is injury prone (we don't know if he will survive training camp without an injury) also he has not played in 2 years.

Mcelroy is not a starting QB in the NFL will be #3 and eventually a coach.

Smith will eventually be the starter will probably sit for the first couple of games (please keep in mind that the Jets have 2 games within the first 4 days of the season) so possibly after the New England Thursday night game Smith will be the QB.

Sanchez has not been a good QB over the last 1 1/2 seasons but he is durable and experience and given how fragile Gerard is you need a young back up QB for next season. Don't get me wrong Sanchez is not the answer but we need to look at the reality of the upcoming season.

And Simms is only a practice QB for training camp.
