Not freaking out about this, but yeah, it's a douche move on Geno's part. He'll probably go for Rosenhaus or Condon.

Which leads me to believe his agent still gets his cut.

Disappointed that he doesn't have the self-awareness to recognize what a douchey move this looks like.

I'm sure he'll get reimbursed for those expenses and the work....but no where near the 3% he was about to earn off the rookie contract.
His agent had him in the Green Room on Thursday night believing he'd be a 1st round pick. THAT may have been a dick move by the agent.

look at it from his shoes, (now I dont know the real argument but lets play devil advocate for a second).. If i was him and the agents promised me that Id go #1 overall if I signed with them, and then only to fall to the 2nd round, Id be pretty pissed off at them

What do you expect from someone who needed to be told by adults to go back to Radio City Music Hall and act like a grownup?

If I got drafted by the Jets, I'd probably fire my agent too.

Correct. There isn't a ton of wiggle room.

Geno was a 2nd round pick and not even the first QB taken. He'll be paid according to where he was taken.

You have no idea what the agents 'sold' him. They have no control over it anyway, what were they supposed to do, pay off a GM?

Disagree. I don't think it's a douchy move. If you had a lawyer who told you to turn down a $1M settlement and let a trial go to jury, and you end up with a $250K award wouldn't you be disappointed? You would have gotten bad advice and you should absolutely find different representation for your next big decision.

Geno got bad advice from supposed "experts." He can and should find better reps as he heads into the next critical phase of his football career, contract negotiations.

Um, ya probably should be pissed off at yourself. Those agents didn't take one snap for him during the season nor during the pre-draft workouts, nor was it them interviewing with league personnel behind closed doors.

oh please, don't make this into the huge deal that it isn't.

this is far less serious than, let's say, Eli refusing to play for the Chargers and forcing his way to the Giants.

How about this: Geno Smith thought he would be & should be the No. 1 overall pick, I'm told. That's why he fired his agents. #nyj
Don't like how that sounds tbh

We wont be negotiating anything until year 3, so thankfully by then we'll know if he's worth the big money

And unlike Darrelle Revis, who only wanted to get paid like a QB, Geno actually is one. So if he plays well I don't care who his agents are

LOL at people comparing him to Revis. We should only be so lucky to land a player of that quality (even with the holdouts).

Very hard to see anything positive in this for the Jets. From a financial standpoint, we are protected by the CBA sot he agent's role is relatively minor for the first contract. But this might speak to his character if he is blaming someone else for the fact that he didn't go number 1 overall.

And if he hires those 2 cvnts we should just let him walk.
