Wouldnt be a bad idea, depending on how much he'd want. People here are overestimating our secondary - Revis and Landry are HUGE losses. And our "2nd ranked pass defense" was bogus, teams were able to easily run on us.
If Idzik is just looking towards the future, then yeah, no need for Woodson. But he'd certainly help our team in 2013.
True. To go from 4-12 to 5-11.
This season is lost, it's main purpose is to break in new players and Geno. The rest is not that relevant (albeit I always root for Jets to win).
Teaching the younger guys, filling a big hole or providing depth at the Safety position.
We're not building around Calvin Pace or Willie Colon either but we signed them for depth and some veteran presence.
Because in one case we had no young players whose development might be hindered by the player taking playing time (Pace) and in the other playing a "developmental" prospect could lead to getting your QB or other long-term parts damaged (Colon).
At safety, the Jets have three young players with potential - Jarrett, Bush, and Allen. They may all end up as no more than special teamers - but in a year like this, it's much better to find out whether they can be more than to sign a hold-the-fort veteran. At the end of the year, if they all turn out to be the back of the roster players they likely are, you are in no worse place than you would have been had you signed a vet to a 1 year deal - needing a long term solution at the position. (Actually, in a slightly better position since you have more knowledge of the in-house assets to inform that decision). If one pans out, on the other hand, you are in significantly better position, having closed a long term hole with a cheap player under team control for another few years.
There's literally no upside to a Woodson type signing if they are not a win-now team. And they aren't.
Not as good as Cro, Wilson, Milliner
Perfect fit for Crazy Al's halfwit son
Reminds me of the Jets signings of R Lott, S Atwater, T Law and A Monk
Of course R 9175 is leapimg with glee
As he was about C Palmer and J Russell
You do know the difference between the CB position and the FS position. C Woodson isn't playing CB, but safety. So what FS do the Jets have that is better or would start over C Woodson. 2011 Charles made the AP Probowl team at CB and just was injured in 2012.
SG3 Raiders have had just a little better luck(knowing who could still play and who can't) with older players in the secondary- Ronnie Lott- gave Raiders some great seasons before they let him go to the Jets, Albert Lewis, Rod Woodson and Now Charles Woodson. (who upgrades the secondary tremendously)

Glad you are happy with another washed up retread that was a huge embarrassment last season
You're right though, even on his rascal, problem better than pretty much anything else on the Raydaz
I'm very happy SG3 with this signing. Makes the Raiders secondary very good and the young guys in that secondary have a mentor to lean on for support.
You do know C Woodson was hurt in 2012. He made the first team All AP Probowl team at CB in 2011 .(not to shabby for a guy his age)
