Famed New York Jet Curtis Martin will appear at John. F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore for a fundraiser to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims on Monday, May 20, student government officials said.
Martin, a former National Football League running back and hall of famer, will sign autographs at the school to help raise money for the student government’s Cougar Nation Hurricane Relief Fund.
Bradley Seidman, a social studies teacher who advises the student organization, explained that ESPN football analyst and Kennedy alumnus Adam Schefter helped arrange Martin’s appearance. He will sign photos, newspapers and magazines for $30, and footballs and helmets for $40.
All proceeds from signing, which will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., will be donated to the Cougar Nation Hurricane Relief Fund. The student government established the fund when Kennedy students returned to school after Hurricane Sandy tore through many of their homes on Oct. 29. Seidman said that guidance counselors have identified Bellmore-Merrick families in need, and they will receive monetary assistance.
Martin was a running back for the New York Jets and New England Patriots during his 10-year NFL career. The five-time Pro Bowler retired in 2005 after putting together the fourth highest rushing total in NFL history. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012."
