Thread: Mike Goodson Arrested

  1. #681
He's supposed to "KNOW" about a gun in the car when he's so intoxicated they had to take him to an emergency room? Tell me, how the hell is any district attorney going to prove that in court? Especially since the car doesn't even belong to him?

Wow man, half of us were ready to run this player out of town simply based on media hype. Hope we all learned a lesson about listening to the talking heads in the news world...

See how the media sensationalizes stuff? They had Goodson as the bad guy here and were ready to crucify him! All the guy did was catch a ride home with somebody he met 3 weeks ago because he was too drunk to drive. isn't that what everyone tells you to do? Don't drive drunk, let someone else drive? WELL HE DID THAT! What's the problem here?

I really hate the media in this country. It's all tabloid all the time. They don't give a damn for accurate reporting all they care about is SALES!

I hope Goodson is a solid contributor for the Jets this year. The district attorney has absolutely nothing on this guy but public intoxication, which is like what... a $200 fine? NICE JOB SPORTS MEDIA! NOW GO BACK TO REPORTING ON LINDSAY LOHAN YOU CLOWNS!
Actually a lot of people that don't drink on a regular basis get drunk at weddings etc.

It is conceivable that he did nothing wrong but drank too much because he doesn't normally drink.

There are far too many if's with this situation. Im personally surprised this thread has not been locked yet by the Maudes.

Emergency room intoxication sounds like a problem in itself to me. Sure its an illness, but im just saying, drinking to the point of poisoning isnt everyday stuff for many people, myself included.

Know what, i really do hope it wasnt his, and he gets a break. Usually a good lawyer goes a long way. Id like to see him clear his name and produce for the Jets this season.

My head tells me he is a goner, whether or not hes been paid a bonus.

    GO JETS!

everyone doesn't tell you to get into the car with a drunk driver. you clearly don't see this as a problem.

and most people don't have the resources to get a car service to pick them up 24/7.

all the media is reporting is what the government charged them with.

Police say they found marijuana in Mike Goodson's pocket
Chris Strauss and Peggy Wright, USA TODAY Sports5:40 p.m. EDT May 22, 2013

MORRISTOWN, N.J. -- New York Jets running back Mike Goodson "was incoherent, slobbering and had vomited all over himself as well as the interior of the vehicle," when he was arrested early Friday morning, New Jersey State Trooper Carlos Mesa said in an affidavit seen by USA TODAY Sports.

Goodson appeared in court Wednesday to plead not guilty to gun and drug charges in connection to the arrest.

Police said they found a baggie of marijuana in Goodson's pants pocket, and a loaded, .45-caliber Taurus Millennium handgun and drug paraphernalia in the car, which driver Garant Evans, 31, of Roselle, N.J., consented to have searched.

Mesa said that when he found the car stopped on Interstate 80 in Denville, N.J., he went to speak to Evans and smelled burnt marijuana and alcohol coming from the vehicle. Mesa said he saw Goodson, 25, in the front seat.

Goodson, of Spring, Texas, was taken to a hospital as a precaution after Friday's incident because of his level of intoxication, authorities said.

Police were alerted to the vehicle by a tow truck operator, who reported the vehicle stopped in the left center lane of the interstate around 3 a.m., police said.

The loaded, .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun contained 4 Speer rounds and one Winchester hollow point bullet, according to a criminal complaint.

Criminal complaints also said that police found two partially smoked marijuana cigars and drug paraphernalia that included four empty plastic baggies and one Dutchmaster pack containing the two cigars.

Goodson was able to post $50,000 bail and appeared Wednesday, neatly attired in a suit, at a processing hearing in state Superior Court.

Evans remained incarcerated Wednesday on $75,000 bail, Morris County Sheriff Edward Rochford said.

Defense lawyer Anthony Fusco said Goodson is still a Jets player and is fully cooperating with inquiries by the NFL and Jets. On Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings in Boston, Jets owner Woody Johnson said the club was still collecting "facts" about the case before determining Goodson's status. Johnson said Goodson had met with Jets general manager John Idzik.

"He has not been disciplined or anything like that by the team," Fusco said before the hearing. "The gun charge is serious but we have reason to believe the gun is not his. We firmly believe the gun charge is not going to last against Mike."

Fusco said that Goodson would next appear in Superior Court on June 12th.

Bail on Evans was reduced from the initial $150,000 to $75,000 on Tuesday by a Superior Court judge. According to court records, Evans is not permitted to have a weapon because he previously was convicted in Union County for possession of drugs with intent to distribute.

Fusco said Goodson met Evans about three weeks ago.

Goodson, who signed a three-year, $6.9 million deal with the Jets this off-season, did not speak to reporters under the advice of his attorney, who answered questions for him.

"He's upset," Fusco said. "It's something he didn't want to ever happen. Mike has no record whatsoever. He feels that he has been and will continue to cooperate with the New York Jets and the NFL."

Goodson faces five charges: drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a loaded gun, unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of hollow-point bullets.

When asked about the drugs, Fusco said: "We don't smoke cigars, marijuana or otherwise."

The lawyer advised Jets fans to "just hold on" as details in the case emerge.

"We're just getting into the case, but you can see, the way he looks, he's just a hell of a nice guy," Fusco said. "If you get a chance to talk to him later on, not today, you'll see what a nice guy he is. I think that's going to be very important."
Actually, the way it looks, Goodson is such a nice guy he's a terrible liar.

    That could be very important.

I've never smoked myself into a vomiting stupor. Believe me, Ive tried.

But if the dude is covered in vomit, his weed and breath must have been kicking like Bruce Lee.

Goodson was probably pretty smashed on alcohol, drunkenly agreed to "smoke that fatty", and puked from the major spins of high grade + alcohol and cigar smoke. They then proceeded to have their Cheech and Chong "I think we're parked, man" moment in Interstate 80:

He's just guilty of being young and dumb.

I bought a spray called "Liquid Ass" off Amazon last year and took it to work to prank a coworker.

This stuff is bad beyond words. I mean mind-boggling, eye watering, brain numbing awful. Just handling it is lethal.

I keep it inside two plastic ziplock bags inside a waterproof zippered pouch in my garage.

If you ever have a bad meal or service at a restaurant and want to get even, spray a couple pumps of this beauty under your table and run your ass off.

I would advise against such action, believe it or not, that could be considered a terrorist act and you could be charge under federal law.

This is exactly what happened......But its the kinda thing you would expect a college kid to do, and not an NFL player

I don't think Goodson is a bad dude or anything, but when you get that hammered, bad things can and do happen

Don't think he should be cut unless the gun turns out to be his (Which I doubt)

    Honest question here...

I've been drunk a few times. I've actually smoked weed like twice in my life.

What does the combination of both do to a person? I'm sure it differs for everyone, but does anyone have a general answer for the effect it gives?

Smoking weed has the same effect as drinking a few beers. Both are sedatives.

Cocaine and meth, now you're talking about the other end of the spectrum. I have never done nor ever would do either of these destructive substances. Smoking weed or drinking beer wasn't going to make you go out and want to kill someone or yourself. Once Cocaine was introduced to the American culture it destroyed all sanity and stability. It's a crap drug, and if you use it you deserve what you get.

Today is Goodson's birthday. He's only 26 years old. How many of us went out and got drunk when we were 26? Tell you what, it's Friday... wait till about 10pm and go down to Port Jefferson by the ferry and tell me how many 26 year olds are down there stone drunk.

He's a young guy, he did what young guys sometimes do, he shouldn't lose his career because of it.

    Do you have proof?

I can see disturbing the peace or disorderly conduct depending on where it's used, but an act of terrorism is a bit ridiculous.

Please don't tell me you studied law at Jordusky State University.

"doing what young guys do" is not an excuse for getting drunk in public.
Have i done it? Sure. Was i stupid? Absolutely.

I dont think getting drunk and high on the town at the wee hours of the morning are a right of passage for young men. Its very dangerous.

Im sure even you would admit that its dangerous enough being on the streets in the AM hours of the morning, but being drunk, in a car with weed, and a gun (his or not), is asking for trouble. I cant chalk that up as a growing pain, or life lesson, i call it a bad decision that unfortunately caught up with him.
