Mark Sanchez is the worst starting QB in the NFL over the past four years combined.
He is proven inaccurate, immoble with poor awareness, and is a veritable turnover machine. None of these failings involve his teammates, they are purely his own talent and skills or lack thereof.
In the quoted and repeatedly uttered words of his most strident defender here at J.I. "Mark Sanchez Sucks".
With that said, in year #5 of his career, he has an absolute fair chance to win the #1 QB job, despite his doubters amongst the fans and almost the entire professional sports media, and can keep it via his own play if he's good enough.
I say good, competition is a good thing and every player should face it, especially the worst QB in the NFL for the last 4 years. If Sanchez wins the job on the field legitimately, fine, best of luck to him. Thats as it should be.
The best player playing the best should play, period. At least now the competition isn't a 95 year old guy (Gerrard) or a no-chance longshot (McEljoke) or a gimmick RB (Tebow). Smith, if nothing else, should be a legitimate competitor to Sanchez.
With that said, anyone (including Joe) questioning why the Jets would select the highest rated QB in the draft when he fell to them in round #2 and they currently have no starting quality QB under contract for 2014 is, IMO, being consciously ignorant of how NFL teams plan for their future.
