The US has looked great, and it's nice to feel confident. They also brought a much more better team than most, they have a few guys who were starting in the June qualifiers. Mexico didn't bring any players from the Confed Cup and no player in their lineup had more than 1 goal before the Gold Cup. As absolutely enjoyable it was to watch Mexico lose in the semis last night, it's important to note just how green that team was.

The other teams brough B teams as well. The US team is certainly not A, but it's a team that should walk through this gold cup. That being said, they have looked great. Some beautiful goals being scored, and Donovan has been a monster (apparently it's the best 5 game stretch of his US career)

Oh you're absolutely right, but it's still enjoyable nonetheless. Looking forward to Sunday. I imagine it will be a pretty pro-USA crowd.

CR missed about 5 gimmies and Honduras scored the one chance they had all game. it happens, it sucks, but in a WC Qualifying year, I honestly don't care about losing in the Gold Cup.

4 years ago, CR was cruising through the qualifier and the coach decided to take the full A team to the Gold Cup, hoping to win it for the first time. we had a great tournament, ultimately losing via PKs to Mexico in the semis. the problem was some guys got hurt and the veterans were physically exhausted after not getting any time off and having to start preseason with their clubs. CR collapsed in the second round of qualifying and missed the WC.

The CR/US game is going to be quite interesting in Sep. Win for US all but clinches top 3, win for CR all but clinches top 4. With CR playing Jamaica next, they could easily been qualified by 9/10 with 2 wins. US has it a bit tougher, with Mexico on 9/10. Looking forward to a good match.

if CR gets at least 4 points in the two September games (home vs. US, away at Jamaica), then we're pretty much guaranteed a top 3 spot. this is because of all the ties (lost points) in previous rounds and also because both Honduras and Panama have to go to Mexico, and i don't see Mexico losing any more points at home.

losing one of the September games puts us in a rough spot, because we close qualifying at Honduras and getting Mexico at home.

US is pretty much qualified already, unless they have an epic collapse (like CR 4 years ago).
