If you want to stay easily within your 500 budget, crash, and get something of high quality, I'd recommend getting swiss made quartz movement in a brand like Hamilton or even Bulova Accutron (the only Bulovas made in Switzerland) or that sort.

If you start to get into quality automatic movements (no batteries, wound by moving your wrist while wearing) it will be difficult to stay within that budget

Do some research on the net... take a look at a shopping website called ShopNBC which sells a lot of junk but you can use it to get a feel for the size and style you might like to buy
    Hamiltons are nice watches.

Went through a variety of more expensive watches. I think I have an Ebel somewhere that is probably worth something but my current watch is this one. A kinetic Seiko.

Nice watch plus the whole no battery replacement thing was appealing to me. It also seems to be at your price point.

As an FYI, that's not a hard cap per se, just that it doesn't seem worth it to me to spend much more. If I see something for $700 that I'd like, I'd certainly consider it, but as non-connoisseur, seems like I would be wasting money n something I don't really appreciate.

That's a sweet watch Timmy, I didn't make fun of you for it.
I'm looking as well and will go Kinetic or light powered with whatever I pick. Found a titanium kinetic watch for $400 a few years back and still kick myself for not getting it. Dont remember what brand.

It's a reissue of a Hamilton Ventura, made iconic by Elvis Presley.

Used to be friends with this total fvckup Hedge Fund guy... (pills and booze made him even weirder than he already was)

He wore a $50,000 watch and had a couple others around 20-25 grand... They honestly didn't even look like much.

Now, he DID have some GORGEOUS Brazilian Rosewood acoustic guitars. THAT I understand... but 50Gs for a damn WATCH?!

    craziness!
I know people who spend 3x as much on a watch. It's what they want, so who are you or I to knock it? Same could be said for expensive liquor, food etc. There's plenty of cheaper alternatives available, so why spend the money?

While Swiss Made is a good thing to go with, it doesn't necessarily mean what it used to. That is why there has been a push by some of the heavy hitters to go exclusively with the Geneva Seal as their calling card. The loopholes for outsourcing parts have seriously impacted the meaning of Swiss Made.

A Swiss Ronda movement would likely be my choice as well if it was a sport watch, but if it's a standard 3-hand, I'd stay away and go for a cheaper automatic.

Deep Blue is about the only watch on ShopNBC that I would consider buying. If something better has been added to their rotation, let me know.

Again, it comes down to what you are looking for. Do you want something dressy, a dive watch or something that its sporty but not all chunky?

Just because a famous person wore something doesn't make it not ghey.

That'd be like wearing makeup and platform shoes, and saying "It's cool, Kiss wore it".

    NOT.

I work in a suit and tie everyday private equity firm so sadly it fits right in.

I mean everyday as in work day. I got a nice g-shock for weekends and hanging.

Some find a steel bracelet uncomfortable for everyday wear. I know I do at least.
