I got Klecko, Martin and Namath.
Undecided on #4, Chrebet should have been a candidate.
Chrebet was never even an all-pro. He was a nice player but nothing more than that.

Just because he over-achieved doesn't mean he should be considered great.

Namath, Maynard, Martin, Klecko is right....

Gastineau was a 3 time All Pro and a 5 time pro bowler.. Wayne showed up in big games more then I can say for certain fan favorites..

So your point is what? What does Chrebet's career have to do with Gastineau

I have no love for Gastineau either but he was a legitimate impact player - You can not really say that about Chrebet.

One year over 1000 yards - He was a quality NFL WR but nothing more...

How many years did Lynn Swann have over 1000 yds?? None and he's in the HOF.. If your interested in just compiling yardage Vinny is better the Joe Montana.. Who had more yards in the Denver AFCCG game Wayne or KJ?? I think Wayne was a impact player for the Jets but it's fine with me if you don't..

    1 )Different era's
    2) Championships matter
    3) Really shouldn't compare Joe Montana to Wayne or Vinny - you can't win with any comparison there.
    4) Yes, let's simply agree to disagree on Chrebet as an impact player. I liked him, loved that he played hard, played hurt etc. Just never thought he was exceptional. KJ was the better receiver.

    Sonny Werblin
    Weeb Ewbank
    Joe Namath

The rest go on Jane's Hill.

Look at the QB's Wayne played with.. When he had Vinny he was really good once Hackett came in everything changed.. If Rice didn't have 2 HOF QB's throwing to him would he been as good?? Obviously Joe was a great QB but Vinny had more yardage and more td's.. That's why compiled yardage doesn't make you great IMO..

Its why comparing football players solely by stats is never a good idea.

Especially when you start cherry picking stats to help your case.

I'm guessing Toon and Riced would be viewed differently had SF drafted Toon and the Jets grabbed Riced

+1 Wayne has more yardage and TD's then Toon but I know of no one that would say Wayne was better..

He's no better than the Jets 5th best WR.

Maynard, Walker, Toon & Philbin were all better players.

Maybe so but I suspect that Al Toon would have been susceptible to hits, some of them concussions no matter which team he played for. Jerry Rice never seemed to have to take the big hit and hence his longevity.

Was Jerry Rice great, or did he benefit from having Joe Montana, Steve Young, a great coaching staff, etc?

I think what we've established here is that no one on the 49ers in the 80s was actually good.

    Namath
    Weeb
    Hill
    Maynard

Got to go with the guys who got the team to the top of the heap...

The rest were just Pro Bowlers with a single championship game and a couple of playoffs each.

You mean his hit on Bledsoe that begat Brady.

Snell was huge in the Supe 3 win..

I picked Weeb, Klecko, Hill, and Namath. Granted this is based off of what I have read/heard of these guys. Sadly wasn't alive for the Jets SB win

Wasn't Hill a beast of an LT? I remember reading a lot that he was a HOF snub and so I gave him some love in the poll.

WOW, was thinking Sauer, , reading something on Philbin and screwed it up. I'd put Sauer in before Chrebet.
