Supreme Court Ruling on Affirmative Action Inbound....

Waiting on the decision now, should be out very shortly.

Also expecting the other big ruling (gay marriage) soon (maybe even today) word is.

And here it is. Affirmative Action (use of race to choose who is accepted) stands the Test in a limited way, Court avoids the big questions:

We are now entering the territory where affirmative action will be in effect simply for being male, as women increasingly dominate college campuses and the professions such as medicine, law, business.

You have a real example of this, or is this just prognostication?

    Numerous articles, but here's one...

Here's an older one, but focus is slightly different...

Forgive me, but I may have missed in that article where anyone suggested an "Affirmative Action" style program for men to get an advantage over women in admissions.

Not only do I not think any such program would survive legal scrutiny, I could never support such a program, man or not.

Oh my, I was being half-serious. You really need to get a humor meter. My only point was that there are a number of dimensions that are changing regarding college admissions, not to mention who finishes college and moves on to higher degrees. Men are gradualy becoming an endangered species in both regards. Eventually, schools will be fighting to see who can offer diversity admissions to men, simply to keep their numbers up.

    I very highly doubt that.

Winny: It's just that you're so damned dour and looking for the negative and the flaw. Sometimes people are just having some fun with an issue or being casual. Do we have to state that up front? Use smileys? You're a bright guy who has a very logical mind, but geez, sometimes you have to lighten up a bit...

Love you LiL, really, but I object. I have a ton of lols in the Hampur.

In here, not as much, but I still make jokes from time to time.

I'm just not seeing the intended humour here in your posts. No smilies (which help on occasion with dry or subtle humourous intentions).

    I'm re-reading again.....whats the joke that I'm missing?

I'll accept that. Not saying I was making a joke as in "ha-ha" but merely being "wry" about males being endangered in college. You took it a bit too literally.

By the way, I'm of the position that affirmative action has seen its day long ago. If schools want "diversity" they will have to do so by being a bit more creative with their palette and there is no need for legal trappings at all. Black kid from private school whose daddy is a lawyer is not my idea of diversity. Mexican kid from El Paso whose illegal dad picks lettuce... now that's diverse (smiley coming... that's intended as humor.... ).
