There should be a poll on if anyone is surprised by this in the slightest.

Said a few days ago... He's just stretching out his last paychecks.
He ain't gonna be getting on the field anymore.

Maybe we can trade him to NE for Leon tho

Damn that's rough. I hope they can get someone in before the season starts. Tone is far from great and he's a poor number one, but he is still the best we have at this point... Which says a lot about what's left after him.

Tone Time is running out ....

It's just the preseason PUP. He can come back to training camp as soon as he's healthy. Non-story unless he hits the real PUP.

I heard he hasn't even started running yet. If he plays it will be a miracle.

ACTIVE/PUP, which is way different than the inactive/PUP:

A player who, as a result of football-related injuries, is unable to take part in training camp practices may be assigned to the preseason PUP list. Players can be moved off the PUP list to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player cannot be placed on the PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice, even if only for a few minutes.
    vs. inactive/PUP

A player who finishes the preseason still on the PUP list can then be placed on the regular-season PUP list. Such players must sit out the first six games their team plays. At that point, teams have a three-week window in which to allow the player to begin practicing; from the day the player begins practicing, teams have an additional three-week window in which to decide whether to activate the player to the 53-man roster. If either of those deadlines pass, the player must remain on the PUP list for the remainder of the season.
And injured reserve, which is different altogether:

A team may place a player on injured reserve (reserve/injured list) who is "not immediately available for participation with a club". Generally, these players may not practice or return to the Active List for the rest of the season (including postseason games) that they are placed on injured reserve, but are allowed to be with the team.

Starting in 2012, the NFL and the NFLPA reached an agreement allowing one player placed on injured reserve to be brought back to the active roster.

Provided the provisions that the player was on the final 53-man preseason roster (A rule exempted for the 2012 season), and that the injury is deemed to keep this player unable to practice or play football for an estimated six weeks, the player may be allowed to practice after Week 6, and be activated to play after Week 8.

Teams may also place a player on injured reserve with a minor injury designation, but the team must release the player once he is healthy.
While this is significant that he won't practice, and will have little contribution, especially early, it's not cause for alarm....yet.

And if he doesn't play, he doesn't play. A good player when things are going well, the exact opposite when they aren't.

As for this thread, why is this a surprise to some people? This was pretty much known.

Supposedly he's been running for over 3 weeks.

    +1

Personally, I already expected him to sit out the first 4-6 weeks.

So if he can't go to start the season our starting receivers would be Hill and Kerley? That is frightening

Santonio Holmes on NY Jets PUP list

The video interview with Mehta isn't even about Santonio. They talk about Smith and Sanchez. The most concerning thing, IMO, is Sanchez's hair.

This year is important for his hair. If his hair performs well, it could end up becoming a decent pick for us in a trade. Think Jacksonville's GM would be willing to put up a 3 or 2? Their hair situation is awful.

    Hmmmm why is that frightening?

According to most out here the only thing keeping those two Jet Wrs from being turned into Jerry Rice and Lynn Swann and HOF bound is Geno Smith throwing them the balll....

Wait you mean that is NOT true

You mean we have to actually have WRs who can get seperation from the defense and who can actaully catch the balll....

    Good Grief...

I honestly don't see Santonio Holmes playing a single down this year and it's unclear to me if he'll ever play again for anybody.

It's fitting that his last play as a Jet will be tossing aside a ball inbounds allowing the other team to pick it up and run it back for 6. This guy's karma is ugly.
