Interesting tidbit from Ian Rapoport on NFLTV

    no link.

said there are 2 issues that are outstanding in terms of Rex and the Jets:

    1. Rex's extension (Rex wants multi-year, Idzik pushing 1 year)
    2. Idzik has asked Rex to replace some of "his guys" on the defensive side of the ball (cro?)

  2. #2
Cro and Harris are the 2 guys that make sense...

  3. #3
It's possible he was talking about members of the coaching staff.

Does he mean players, or coaches? I'd read it was the coaching staff that was the issue.

Seems like a Negotiateing ploy ,Rex gets #1 a 2 year ext (3 total), for giving up #2 a few of his players on defense.seems reasonable & it shows they can work with each other.

just re-watched it, he wasn't specific...but it seemed like players to me.

if it's players, great. Rex should be okay with that.

Other than that, nothing really to see here.

Already a thread on this. My guess is that Rex settles for a one-year extension and Woody should give it to him. I think making a coach a lame duck does not make Woody look good with future candidates.

Idzik doesn't discuss contracts nor does Woody or Rex.. The Media also said Idzik was contacting other people for Rex's job and Idzik said yesterday that wasn't true. Does anyone ever think that the media just throws stuff out there for the hell of it?? BTW one of Rex's guys on D would be Ed Reed I would think..

Rapoport just clarified, its the coaches.

Also said that Rex coming back is "not a done deal", with the 2 issues pending.

Cro is a top tier CB, he had some injury issues this year...he will bounce back after getting resigned for less $$.

You can't run a team with a coach just going on 1 year deals...

Idzik and Woody know this and will sign him to a legitimate extension. If things are bad enough, (which they won't be) you can always fire the coach anyway.

My ideal concept? Extend him to two years to the end of the 2015 season. That way, if Rex does bomb next year, you can fire him cleanly and if he grows you can work on a larger extension.

Idzik is talking about the defenses coaches not the players.

I disagree. You don't negotiate a coach's contract with players. That's just silly.

Hopefully he's talking about Jeff Weeks.

he wasn't a top tier cb this year, and he's typically relied more on athleticism rather than technique, which will hurt him as he gets older. the money they're paying cro may be better allocated around the entire secondary to bring in better safeties.

That seems kind of strange for a GM to tell a head coach which coaches he should keep. Shouldn't the HC pics his staff.
