Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin is scheduled to get a second opinion on his hip injury next week, according to league sources.

Harvin will meet with Dr. Bryan Kelly in New York City on Tuesday.

There's real concern about how long the injury might sideline Harvin, for whom the Seahawks traded three picks and invested $25 million guaranteed.

The first doctor believed there was a slight tear in his hip, the source said, adding that both Harvin and the team wanted the second opinion.

Multiple factors could affect Percy Harvin's recovery time from a hip injury, writes Mike Sando. Blog

"Percy has a hip issue that he's dealing with that came up over the summer. We're trying to figure it out. We're going to do everything we can to help him out, to make the right decision and take care of him in every way," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. "He was working out just a week or so ago going full speed, but it was bothering him enough we took some looks at it and we're going to try and figure out what the right procedures [are] to take care of him and get him back out on the field."

Carroll did not rule out surgery as the solution but felt the team has time to get Harvin ready.

"We're going to go ahead and do it step by step right now," Carroll said. "I know he was working full speed just a few days ago, but we need to take care of him."

The Seahawks announced Thursday that Harvin was placed on the physically unable to perform list for the start of training camp.

Harvin finished his last season in Minnesota on injured reserve with an ankle injury that he suffered Nov. 4 in Seattle.

He signed a six-year, $67 million extension with the Seahawks in the offseason, with $25 million of that guaranteed. Seattle traded a first-round and seventh-round pick in the 2013 draft and a third-round pick in the 2014 draft to the Vikings for Harvin.

Along with Harvin, Seattle also started camp with defensive end Chris Clemons (knee) and tight end Zach Miller (foot) on the PUP list.

A player can come off the physically unable to perform list any day during the preseason. If he starts the regular season on the PUP list, he must miss at least the first six games of the regular season.

Shame. A dynamic talent but the injuries have taken their toll. Appendix, ankles, headaches and now the hip.

The sky is blue, water is wet. Who cares. Seattle is where WRs go to die we all know that.

I like the Seahawks and loved Richard Sherman sh*tting on Skip Tebow on ESPN. "I'm better at life than you" yeah no s.

Look forward to rooting for the Seahawks to beat both the 49ers and Giants in the playoffs this year.

Seahawks have quickly become one of the more annoying storylines in the NFL.
