Jets looking to bring in WR Mohamed Massaquoi?

    http://thejetsblog.com/nyjets/report...#disqus_thread

He was just released by Jax who had just signed him in April, maybe the Jets were interested then too but the price wasn't right. Massaquoi is not a fast guy but he can get you first downs and keep the chains moving, similar to what we had with Cotch, he's never going to be a number one guy but he can be a solid number five for us this year, certainly better than Obomanu, Massaquoi is a tank, not pretty but he will catch that ball in traffic and move the chains, might be able to play the slot too if they move Kerley outside.

He might be a good fit in the west coast offense, strictly a possesion WR, Jags are loaded at WR.

I loved watching Massaquoi at GA. He had a solid senior year, but went unnoticed due to AJ's freshman year. I think he started 11 games or so his rookie year. He has good size and decent speed. He would need to toughen up if he wanted to fill Cotch's role. I think he'd be a good fit in MM's offense.

Let's stop and think about this for a sec for those who actually like this guy :

He got released from the Jaguars....THE JAGUARS.

If that doesn't raise any red flags, I don't what will...

Didn't we already bring him in once? I don't mind bringing anyone in for a tryout, but from his past, he's not going to be much of a difference maker. I'd rather wait for cuts to see if any guys with more talent or ability are cut though, because Massaquoi seems more like a depth move at best.

Hill, Braylon, Kerley, Gates, Spadola...and hold a spot for Holmes until we know what his story is for 2013.

Not that our O should be too proud to take help from anywhere. At all.

he was great at Georgia ...followed those 2007 and 2008 georgia teams pretty closely....those couple of seasons i was betting heavily on SEC football, in particular those '07 and '08 Georgia teams. (Knowshon Moreno, Matt Stafford, AJ Green, and Massoquai all on those 2 teams). Havent followed him at all since hes been in the league with the browns/jags

    So?

Braylon wasn't getting so much as a phone call from other teams before we signed him.

I think our biggest issue is keeping guys healthy.

I definitely think he is worth a look. He is younger than Obomanu and has been much more productive. No harm in bringing him in for a look.

This guy does have some talent. Had a very promising rookie season, but has kind of fallen off a cliff in recent years due to injuries.

Jags clearly overpaid him (2 years, up to $4.7M) for a guy who probably figured to be the #4 WR. They have quickly corrected their mistake in letting him go now.

If he can be signed for a vet minimum type deal, the Jets should throw him into the mix. He does have talent, but he's not worth paying major money for until he can prove his career is back on track.

We brought him in earlier this year ... injury situation caused us to pass, IIRC.
