Could this be a camp replacement for lex Hilliard? I know he was a tackle but the jets used him as more of a tight end. I wonder if he could line up at fullback.

No he's not, and to some extent Mink is right when he says Smith sucks. He's an awful Tackle, god awful, but his strength and athletic ability could make him a solid OG. He can't handle the speed of the pass rushers, but the kid can block in close areas. I am shock no team has tried him at guard developmentally.

Maybe it's because of where he was drafted.

He's also a human turnstile. But yeah.

But we didn't bring him in to pass block. He will serve the same role as last year, extra tackle/jumbo te when running the ball and he was pretty good at it.

I really don't see why anyone would have a problem with this signing. He can be the backup at both tackles and play in jumbo packages.

Is he an All-Pro? No. But how many teams have All-Pros as backups on the line?

He can play in a pinch, the coaches know what he can and can't do, and he will provide cheap veteran depth.

Certainly a preferable option as the third tackle over Aboushi and Shugarts.

Might mean PS for Aboushi. While that would be mildly disappointing for a 5th-round pick, it would also be a lot easier at this point to sneak Oday through to the PS than a player they like that's flashed (Spadola, Lansanah, etc).

Is also athletic enough to play some TE as a blocker. Lined up at FB a couple of times too.

    OL is shaping up nicely

Ferguson, Ducassse, Mangold, Colon, Howard, Winters, Peterman, Smith, Aboushi

    Campbell on PS

Or maybe both Aboushi and Campbell on PS and Freeman makes team?
Among the starters, I doubt this group is anywhere near as good as the 2009 and 2010 OL's respectively. But in regards to depth, yes this team is shaping up quite nicely. I haven't seen depth like this at the OL since Parcells was around.

I would explain it to you, but why should i. You appear to know better than the folks who have decided that the kid is good enough to start at the highest level of his profession.

Ah yes. Well then, game over. You can never question the Jets when they decide someone is good enough to start at the highest level of the profession. Two division titles and counting since the moon landing!
