Ben Affleck is the new Batman

Ben Affleck is the new Batman

It's official, Ben Affleck will play Bruce Wayne/Batman opposite Henry Cavill's Clark Kent/Superman in Zack Snyder's still untitled "Batman vs. Superman" film at Warner Bros. Pictures. The studio made the announcement a few hours ago,

Greg Silverman, Warner Bros.' president of creative development and worldwide production, says: "We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular superheroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent, and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character."

Snyder adds: "Ben provides an interesting counterbalance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him."

This sequel to this year's "Man of Steel" was announced at Comic-Con last month, prompting much speculation surrounding who would play the Dark Knight. To the credit of the studio, Affleck's name was never really a part of the rumored mix despite his high profile.

Warners has slated the film for release on July 17th 2015.

Whoever the picked was going to have a hard time filling Bale's shoes, but Affleck is really not who most people envisioned.

Not a big fan of the movie franchise but I thought it had jumped the shark already? Putting puppet-head Aflact in there is like revving up the bike for another jump back. Dont know how that stiff is doing anything other than changing oil and checking fluid levels.

He's pretty good at checking air-pressure, too. Blue-collar, ya know?

This sucks beyond belief, but I am trying to keep an open mind about it. All of the casting in Man of Steel was spot on, so maybe he will be ok. Only problem is, I hate Ben Affleck.

Just you wait! There's going to Superman/Batman, which will lead up to a Justice League of America movie, and probably other side movies on the way as well - Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, etc. Think Iron Man/Thor/Captain America/The Hulk/Avengers all over again. Heck, I think I even heard they're making an Ant-Man movie.

Is there a reason why Bale is no longer Batman?

He didn't want to do it.

I'm a big Batman movie fan, seen every one opening week - but not only will I not go to the movies to see this I can't even see myself watching it when it's on HBO.

    What a horrible decision.
