@RavensInsider: Ravens acquire offensive tackle Eugene Monroe via trade from Jaguars http://t.co/xdG9t3yGYl

The Ravens have acquired offensive tackle Eugene Monroe from the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to league sources.

Terms of the deal were not available Tuesday night.

Monroe, is a starting left tackle, and will likely be competing with Bryant McKinnie for a starting spot on the Ravens offensive line.

McKinnie was signed to a two-year contract worth $6.3 million including a $2 million signing bonus in May. However, McKinnie reported to training camp overweight for the second year in a row and wasn’t immediately cleared to practice. He has started every game this season but has not drawn much praise.
Monroe is under contract through 2014 with a base salary of $3.8 million this season and $2.562 million in 2014.

The Ravens rank 28th in rushing offense, averaging 64 yards per game. And quarterback Joe Flacco has been sacked a dozen times.

The motivation for Jaguars general manager David Caldwell would be to acquire all the draft pick ammunition he can get to try to upgrade the roster.

Monroe is a 6-foot-5, 306-pounder from the University of Virginia selected eighth overall by the Jaguars in the 2009 NFL draft.

In his fifth NFL season, Monroe has started every game. The Plainfield, N.J. native has started 62 career games.

Trading a starting LT after week 4? Something isn't right.

Jags sux. Jags rebuilding. Jags want picks.

This is a move that makes sense for both sides. The rebuilding Jaguars acquire draft picks and open up left tackle for Luke Joeckel, the No. 2 overall pick in April's draft. The Ravens, meanwhile, acquire a younger and more dependable blindside protector for Joe Flacco. Everybody wins.

@AdamSchefter: Update: Ravens are sending multiple third-day draft picks to Jacksonville in exchange for OT Eugene Monroe.

@RavensInsider: 2014 year of Eugene Monroe deal voided, so there's just the remainder of his $3.8 million 2013 base salary left over

They dismantled their oline during the offseason so I guess they figured out that wasn't such a good idea, realizing belatedly that Flacco is not the superstar they thought he was without an oline or huge WR named "Quan Boldin"

As much as he has off the field concerns, I'd love the Jets to make a call about Blackmon. Obviously, the Jags would be insane right now to trade him, but why not check in on the fire sale?

Exactly. I liked Monroe when he was coming out but I honestly have no idea how he has performed over his career. Anyone have any clue to his performance up to now?

Any way you look at it, Caldwell has sent a message to the fans. Don't bother coming to Jags games this years. The team sucks and the can't bribe fans to come watch their team with free beer.

Trading your starting LT week 5 for multiple day 3 draft picks is incredibly stupid. At least Cleveland got a 1st rounder for dismantling their team. The Jags might as well kept him.

and to think this clown turned down the Jets for them.

They're not interested in moving Blackmon. They want weapons for whoever their future QB is. And Blackmon is a legit weapon.

Josh Gordon is the guy the Jets need to be going after. He's available and he's a difference maker.

Would be equally as interested in Gordon.

Nice deal for the Ravens, Monroe would have been a nice upgrade at RT for us if we had beat them to it.

Gordon is not available though. And the Browns are tied for 1st place in the AFCN.

With Jax moving Monroe, the Rams D/ST is a fantasy must this week.

I would love for the Jets to go after Gordon, but I'm not sure if they would, since he and Hill are very similar players (but Gordon is a lot better).

He does have a better career rating than Geno. 2:1 TD/INT ratio compared to Geno's 1:2 ratio. They're both equally awful..difference is Tebow didn't play QB for us, Geno is our starter. Sad isn't it?

Quite well actually. It was a big reason why many expected JAX to go Jordan/Geno in the draft. LT was a not a need... then they draft Joeckel, so he can play RT? It was a weird move.

Personally, I think it's decisions like that - that make franchises like JAX perennially losers. Will Joeckel turn out to be a better LT? Maybe. but why not spent that pick on a different position of need.
