Josh Freeman goes to Minnesota Vikings

Freeman gets an additional 3 million by going to the Vikings.

Giving Freeman that much money for only 12 games signals a big step away from Christian Ponder in Minnesota. Freeman was released by the Buccaneers on Thursday, a week after he was benched in favor of rookie Mike Glennon.

Freeman can walk away from Minny at the end of the year, is a FA.

Might be premature to get rid of Ponder or to count him out

His rib injury could be worse than they are letting on. If Ponder was completely healthy I dont think they sign Freeman right now.

I don't get Minnesota giving Freeman all that money midseason, when he's an FA at the end of the year. They're not in contention for anything, and Freeman has to learn the offense. For a team like the Vikings, he'd have more value next year, so rather than pay him a lot this year and lose him, why not give him a 2 year deal for less annual money?

There may have been another team interested in Freeman as well, so there could have been a small bidding war for him.

They can make a decision at the end of the year based on how he performs this year. 3 mill for 12 games is a lot for a disgruntled QB.

Freeman also had been linked to the Bills and Raiders .

The Vikings tried to sign him to a two year deal? He balked as he wants to be an unrestricted Fa in 2014. He can play with the team of his choice. The Vikings were his best chance to start this year but he will be looking for the best situation for him long term in 2014. That was a smart move on his part.

I do not believe so. If he signed with the Bills, he starts this week.

Oh I don't know about that. Who is going to give him a big long term deal the way he has played? He better hope he gets playing time in Minny and lights it up otherwise he'll be just another back up quality guy looking for a job. He'll also have competition from some other failures like Sanchez.

The Raiders will probably look at Freeman again in 2014. Freeman had his best season with raiders current OC ( Greg Olsen) his OC with Tampa bay. Right now it didn't make any sense for them this year. the Raiders will probably sign David Carr to be Pryor backup and trade M Flynn back to Packers( eat most of that contract- so A Rodgers could get his golf buddy back)

The raiders will probably be one of those teams definitely. ( raiders current OC had Freeman playing at a top level when he was there) Again raiders GM is never afraid to bring in Qb's, set yourself up with a possible trade chip down the road. ( let 24 year old Pryor and 25 year old Freeman battle it out for the Job.) Qb is such an important position that teams tend to over pay to get them.
