I certainly don't want to pick a fight on this board (or make anything personal), but I think that it is easy to call a player 'hot garbage' and a like. A receiver has to be able to block, get open, and catch the ball; he also needs to know the playbook and develop chemistry with the QB. Did I think that Gates was great, no way. In fact, I saw him as an indictment on just how little depth in WR the Jets have. Can the Jets catch lighting in the bottle with Salas (or whomever)? Absolutely. But there was a reason Gates was on the team and Salas was on a practice squad - Jets could have grabbed him at anytime. It comes down to that fact the Jets coaches thought Gates was better. Maybe we will get a raw practice squad guy with much more upside than Gates, and he will be great for us next year, but our struggling QB now has to build chemistry with another young inexperienced receiver. I am not sure how this can be good at least in the short term.
