Bottom line is in 2014 nobody is going to remember this. This will be forgotten like the downgrade and the sequester and every other ratings driven media-hyped crisis. But in 2014 Obamacare will still be here and still be a disaster. Reps need to pick themselves up and dust themselves off and return to being the party of discipline. It is not going to get any easier with Hilary on the next ticket. Weather the storm of the "firsts" and focus on winning back the two houses of Congress.
Just passed in the Senate. Basically the only concession the Reps got was a verification of income for those that apply for Obamacare subsidies. My question is how was that not in the bill to begin with?
And now Barry is going to give a speech before the House even votes. At best it is questionable procedure.

If the Democrats caved they would be called racist, just like they call everyone who doesn't kiss the president butt. Time will catch up with the new form of Medicare, Social Security and other entitlements all with good intentions but wrecked by the same ones who opened the can of worms. Btw I am a Tea Party member and I want Affordable Care implemented for everyone unions, big business and the other Obama lackeys. Time to feel the pain
just read this morning that the Vitter amendment fell by the wayside (removing the exemption from Obuttockscare for Congress and the President).
Hopefully, that comes back to haunt the Dims.
As for in-fighting: the Republican establishment needs to grow a pair and fight back. Why has no one confronted his majesty and pointed out that people's premiums are doubling, that they ARE losing their choices, and that they can't keep their doctors?
Looking to be as total and utter a defeat as expected.
1. No changes to ACA core details. Only add was an income verification that should have been in to start, and won't be enforced.
2. House loses some of it's power over future debt limit control.
3. Republicans (and especially Tea Party) now viewed in the most unfavorable light in Party history.
4. Economic damage of 2 weeks of Shutdown, especially to business.
5. Full Scale Media Cheerleading Victory Parade about how the (D) defeated utterly the Terrorist Hostage-Taking Irresonsible (R)'s.
6. Clear-cut case of political bribery, McConnell gets 2 Billion payout to KY for a Pork Project to make the Senate compromise happen. Eliminates any argument of (R) principles.
Listening to (R) radio try feebly to turn this into some kind of sooper-sekret-victory-we-just-don't-know-it-yet is just pathetic and sad.
This was the Soviets vs. the Germans at Kursk. This was complete political domination and a crushing defeat in every mesurable way.
I really do hope the idle fantasy of some uprising of voters in 2014/2016 gets you folks through the day, because thats all it is, a fantasy.
No one "woke up" here. If not for specificly drawn districts that protect some (R), one-party-rule would be almost guaranteed in 2014 now.
The president signed into law at 11 pm last night or the last minute.
Crammer was saying on MSNBC how the threat of default would cost us 10 basis point by the rating agencies which correlates to billions on the 17 trillion debt ie., 17,000,000,000,000 X .001 =17 Billion
Plus the loss of economic damage due to the shutdown.
If we do nothing about our debt then our credit rating is not going to matter. Sooner or later people will stop lending us money. All we did was kick the can down the road and make our demise slower. Our gov't took in more money last year than in any year in history and still ran up a $700B deficit.
Damn Canadians tried to shut the gubbermint down...
It's a sad day when this nations representatives care more about there parties and own agendas then they do about the people of this nation. When a small group of men and women can hold hostage an entire country to the political silliness. This is why we must do away with all career idiots and create term limits to keep our government honest and working for the best interest of the American people.
As far as the debt is concerned, stop all foreign aid for two to three years and tell the world we will be closed for that time. They will just have to manage on there own, the wealthiest nation on earth has decided it must get its own house in order, before helping anyone else.
I might also remind my friends on the right, that we at one time had a leader who not only got the debt under control but also created a surplus. Seems our friends on the right, did not seem to find that was a big deal at the time. Seems a leaders personal life threaten the nation much more then spending or borrowing or any debt; interesting.
An if you think that leader was tough to deal with, wait till you deal with the other half of that family. An I can assure you, that Mr Cruz and his gang of anarchist, have all but assured her election.

It's amazing that you cannot contemplate that the (R) involved ARE doing what they think is best and standing up for their actual ideals.
I know I know, you're told it's all racism, right?
You do understand thats how our system was designed and how it works, right? When a small group of men and women can hold hostage an entire country to the political silliness.
Normal business would be a series of budgetary appropriations bills, which is exactly what the House did.
The Senate and President said, basicly, "all or nothing". Like barricading the parks during a slimdown, this is a "new" way of doing business.
Respectfully, the House has every right to fund what it wishes, and appropriate as it sees fit, thats one of it's Constitutionally mandated roles.
In a Nation with a real media, this would not have been covered as all-R-bad, all-D-rightious as it was, because thats simply not the facts.
This was and always was a two-sided affair.
Put another way, if we'd worked the way we'd worked for most of our Nations history, there would be no shutdown, no debt ceiling debate.....only an appropriations fight, in the House, over funding for the ACA.
Agreed. As far as the debt is concerned, stop all foreign aid for two to three years and tell the world we will be closed for that time. They will just have to manage on there own, the wealthiest nation on earth has decided it must get its own house in order, before helping anyone else.
So what would do about the other 17.95 Trillion in Debt still in place after that?
