The Giants are not expected to trade Hakeem Nicks ahead of Tuesday's 4pm ET deadline.
The Giants are 2-6, but they're just two games out of first place in the woeful NFC East. They're not giving up on their season, and they're reportedly not giving up the thought of re-signing Nicks once his contract expires after the year. It's a moderate surprise considering Nicks has been dreadful over the last two seasons, averaging 4.1 catches for 57.7 yards with three touchdowns across 21 games. Third wideout Rueben Randle has consistently made more plays in limited playing time.
Twitter has really made this kind of speculation moot. If you follow the respected "insiders" on twitter (the usual suspects... Schefter, Rappaport, Glazer etc), it's pretty easy to stay on top of any real trade talk. The rest is just wishful, fan created white noise.
I think Dallas losing to the Detroit ensured that Nicks won't be traded. While it is ridiculous to think the Giants can make the playoffs at 2-6, the faint hope of it is enough for them to hang onto Nicks. If Dallas were 5-3, they'd have been more likely to concede the season and trade Nicks.
