How did the jets start the season ranked #32 in the power rankings?

Why do you think ESPN had them ranked below the likes of Jacksonville, Cleveland, buffalo. Etc.?

Perception and laziness , it's easy for analysts to buy into the overall media hype, they trust what others are saying and don't do the work necessary to fairly evaluate a team.

I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of offensive weapons. "Analysts" saw a rookie qb and very little offensive firepower and seemed to have forgotten that it's a similar formula used in 2009. Also, it drives page views.

The jets had a horrible offense last year, no discernible QB and were certainly worthy to be lumped in with that group of teams pre season. Why they were last? Media. local and national will always err on the side of jets being bad than good.

they also looked at the defense that had 7 new starters and assumed that meant they would be much worse on defense.

The biggest single reason would be that on paper we "lost" significant members of our DL rotation (Pouha and Devito). We also "lost" Revis, Landry and Bart Scott even tohugh Revis was not a loss compared to 2012 because he was injured.

People thought our defense would be taking a big step back and they "knew" our offense sucked. Very wrong on the first count and wrong on the second count.

Must have been all those idiots that didn't realize how good of a coach Rex really is.

Because the Jets were really bad the last 2 seasons. If you want to debate they should have been closer to 28, thats fine, but writers cant project all the upside that has developed this season.

WHy do people consistently get their feelings hurt over this. Its similar to the "Why dont the Giants get labeled a circus" question.

    Poor analysis, plain and simple.

The focus was on a lazy rookie quarterback, a lame duck head coach, a circus atmosphere, and lost veteran players such as Revis, Scott, Keller, Greene, Landry, etc. They failed to recognize the potential of a new offensive coordinator/system, a physically talented quarterback, and a few blossoming young talents such as Wilkerson, Richardson, Harrison, Davis, Kerley, Ivory, and Allen. This team is very young and got no respect despite some clear potential to an objective eye.

Buttfumble and the media has an agenda against the Jets for some reason.

    Next Question....

We are not the "darlings" of the NFL. We are a team that a lot of people dislike for whatever reason. Add rookie QB and poor offense then the "experts" say we are the worst. But as Jets fans we all knew there was NO WAY we were that bad

You don't think that public perception of the jets is a big deal?

Maybe they had more experience in key positions, albeit crap.

That's why the Jets drafted 4th or worse the last two years. People just don't get it huh?

Really? 8-8 is not "really bad", it's the definition of average. 6-10 had them picking 9th.... again, not one of the 4 worst. Fan perception is worse than "experts", sometimes.
