Pro Bowl tight end Todd Christensen died Wednesday morning due to complications from surgery, his alma mater BYU reported via Twitter.

Christensen, who was drafted in the second round of the 1978 draft out of BYU, had a ten-year NFL career with the Raiders. He was 57.

The two-time Super Bowl champion had battled liver disease and other serious illnesses in recent years, the Salt Lake City Tribune reported.

After a four-year career as a running back at BYU, Christensen was converted to a tight end at the pro level. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and twice earned first-team All-Pro honors.

Christensen worked as an NFL analyst for NBC after his playing days.

Sad news...RIP ... Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't he do a lot of Jet games as the color commentator in the 80-90's?

Wow, too young. I always liked him as a player and as a commentator later on. RIP Todd.

Complications or not, 57 is far too young. Watched this guy a lot when I was growing up.

Fantastic player. As someone else said in this thread, he was one of my favorite non-Jet players. 57 is just too young. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family

True, there's no beastly TE like that on Madden 25

    RIP Todd Christensen

He could have played Nick Nolte part in North Dallas Forty, dude was a scrapper.
Really liked him & wished he was a Jet back then. Also liked him as a commentator & he actually was fair when it came to the Jets, no real bias.

Very sad to hear about his passing. Those Raider teams were tough and crazy back in the day, and he was a big part of it. Todd was not only a great TE, but a very intelligent guy too. All you had to do was ask him.lol

    RIP Todd Christensen
