    Stand-up Desks

Anyone have a stand-up desk or know someone who does?
Do people get as much work done standing up? Is it hard to stand in one place all day?

Just wondering because it seems to be the latest health fad (at least only around for the last year).

I was told that by sitting on my ass all day I am basically killing myself.

    So, sounds good to me.

Where did you get the pics from?

I've seen some tools at work that do it.
I've been hearing more and more of this, personally I could never do it, I have degenerative disk disease in my back.
Strangely enough the only thing that makes it hurt is standing for extended periods of time.
I can do yardwork all day cutting logs (insert toilet joke), wheelbarrowing mulch, or sitting in a canoe for hours. No problem.

Stand in one place for 10 minutes and I'm in agony.

Plus it's hard to hide inappropriate work boners, when they occur.

That seems like the worst idea ever. Work already blows, now you have to stand all day? F that.

That's what the ads for these stand-up desks say. Wasn't sure if it's true or good marketing.

Wouldn't a stand up desk require me to wear pants at work?

Ha, ha! I don't have to worry about THAT!

I don't know, it just seems as if standing all day without moving from a desk could really f with someone's posture.

But my boss mentioned that she's trying it for a few hours a day. We both work from home so at least no one sees us standing or sitting.

Yep, latest medical research says sitting all day is just about the worst thing for your body.

Not if a propeller blade comes whipping through the wall at 5 feet above the floor.

I know a few people who have tried it, and swear by it. Id think more than just standing, moving around is the key - standing for 8 hours in one place isn't great either. I think Ive seen adjustable desks for sitting AND standing - alternating would probably be most effective. Personally, I work from home, and sit at a desk all day, but try to get up and walk around between conference calls, a few minutes every hour, etc.

No way could I concentrate on work and walk on a treadmill, that's for damn sure. Just wait, in addition to kids and dogs in the background on conference calls, now you'll hear the treadmill going.

or, not that you're aware of. You could have been wreaking havoc for years on co-workers.
