    Jets All Time Defense

Fill the roster with your picks. For the sake of any argument, we'll have 4 DLs, 4 LBs, and 4 DBs. Use whatever criteria to determine if the player played long enough.

    CB Johnny Sample

FS Kerry Rhodes (can't think of anyone else, off the top of my head)

I became a fan in '82.... so, I'm sure I'll miss some early guys, but here's mine. Also, alternates in parentheses.

DE - Sean Ellis (Mo Wilk will be the starter, eventually)
    DL/NT - Joe Klecko
    DL/NT - Marty Lyons
DE - Mark Gastineau (Dennis Byrd would of been)
OLB - Mo Lewis (Bryan Thomas)
ILB/MLB - Marvin Jones (Lance Mehl)
ILB/MLB - Kyle Clifton (Greg Buttle)
    OLB - Larry Grantham
CB - Darelle Revis (James Hasty)
CB - Aaron Glenn (Antonio Cromartie)
SS - Victor Green (Brian Washington)
FS - Erik McMillan (Jim Hudson)
    Coordinator - Rex Ryan

I had to leave off the 1-2 year guys (Lott, Taylor, etc.) Plus, John Abraham should be on the list, but I just can't stand him..... so he's not.

Not bad, but Mark never played a down of OLB in his life. When they ran a 3-4, he played DE.
Aaron Glen was better than Hasty.
What's sad is, I can't think of a better FS than Erik McMillan since I have been watching the team.

I think most of us didn't see him play, so it's really hard. I know he had 20 sacks on the Super Bowl team, but my list would be from the 80's on, minus the QB, who has to be Joe.

I think Mark would do just fine as a 3-4 OLB.

You could make a case for either of them.

Aaron Glenn played on better teams than Hasty.

James Hasty was one of our better players when the rest of the ream was not very good at all.

When he played for the more talented Chiefs Hasty started getting the credit he was due.

Philbin was before my time as well.

But so were guys like Deacon Jones and Gino Marchetti.

Doesn't mean that would prevent me from putting them on an "all-time" team.

He drove Marino nuts and had 5 interception td returns.. He made the Pro Bowl his first 2 years plus was the DROY but only started 16 game seasons for 3 years..He was done after 5 but a fine FS for a 3rd rd pick..

He was a very good player and had a 14 year career.. He made 2 pro bowls as a Chief at age 32 and 34..

Gerry Philbin was the original Joe Klecko - Speed, Power and Toughness. He and Biggs were just plain nasty

I would say John Elliot was more of the Klecko type but Philbin was a fine sack artist before that was a recorded stat.. He also was Namath's biggest chop buster constantly reminding him what color the Jet jersey's were..

I originally had Kyle Clifton but ended up replacing him with Mo Lewis who was the better player even though he was not a MLB. My feeling was that Mo who played OLB in both a 4-3 and a 3-4 could make the transition to MLB.

I already explained in an earlier post why I took Hasty over Glenn.
