He's average at best in those two areas. As far as overall play, people keep putting him in a group with Wilkerson and Richardson, which is an insult to them as players. They're Probowl caliber players, Coples just isn't.
5 sacks over the last 6 games.
11 hits over the last 8.
19 hurries over the last 8.
Is that really average? Then there aren't many average players in the league.
Run defense was outstanding over the last 8 as well.
you can't coach motor. Coples will always have a mediocre motor. He doesn't play like a man possessed. He will never be Terrell Suggs. Having said that, he can still do good things on this team. His athleticism helps make up for it.
His ideal place is playing DE with his hand in the dirt on 1st/2nd downs, and moving to inside rush on 3rd down.
He needs to get stronger so he can manhandle o-linemen on the edge, and improve his outside move to rush the edge. He's best when he cuts inside to take a straight path to the QB.
