Jason Babin visits with Jets (Update - Babin Signed for 2 years)

    Kimberly Jones ‏@KimJonesSports 1m
Free agent DE Jason Babin visited Jets Monday. Would be an intriguing addition to Rex Ryan's defense.

    Nice

I guess Barnes' recovery isn't on schedule.

I like this... Here's a guy that can generate pass rush as DPR.

    Jaguars released DE Jason Babin.
Babin is 34 years old now and wasn't a lead-pipe lock for the final roster, but this one still comes as a surprise. He led the Jags with 7.5 sacks and 19 quarterback pressures last season, and was re-signed to provide depth at the Leo spot in Gus Bradley's defense. That pact included $500,000 guaranteed. FOX's Mike Garafolo says the Bucs and Falcons are two pass-rush needy teams that could kick the tires on Babin. Jun 19 - 8:57 AM

On November 28, 2012, Babin was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On November 17, 2013, Babin inadvertently ripped out a handful of Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington's "dreads".

On March 10, 2014, Babin voided the final two years of his contract to become a free agent.

Three days later, on March 13, he re-signed with the team.

Babin was released from the Jaguars on June 19, 2014.

He had 7.5 sacks with the Jags last season but he is also 34 yrs old.

    We'll see what happens.

would love this addition. Even if Barnes is healthy. Sure, he's 34, but on a 1 year deal the guy can still produce.

    2010- 12.5 sacks
    2011- 18 sacks
    2012- 7 sacks
2013- 7.5 sacks (on the Jaguars)

With the talent on the Jets d-line and the focus going on Wilkerson, he can still create a good pass rush.

wow...I didn't know he was already 34. He could help us as a one year rental but I wonder what kind of numbers he's requesting.

Can't be a ton, he was on a $7m/3yr deal with $4m up front last year, he's a year older now. $3m/2yrs with most of it coming this year wouldn't be a bad deal, probably about what he'll get.

we have the cap space and a need for another OLB who can rush the passer. worth a flier to see if he has anything left and just in case Barnes is not ready and for depth

Sign me up for Babin. Could produce as a DPR for us until Barnes is ready to go!

I bet Barnes won't be back in time so we need to kick the tires of somebody. He could probably still produce with our DL.

I'd be for this. He's not an every down guy but I think he can still produce as a situational edge rusher.

    Looks like they signed him.
    Probably means Barnes is out.

Gives Barnes a chance to recover longer or he might just be cut.

More like a depth signing since Barnes is always injured

According to Walter Football, this signing makes the Jets even worse, now they are expected to go 1-15.

This is why Idzik is keeping cap room. Needs to sign our players and be able to pickup guys like Babin when necessary. Very Smart!!
