    Of course it's a concern

We're 3 days away from our first pre-season game and he has yet to participate in a full contact practice.

    Touchy, Touchy. I voted No.

He's a rookie. I was never expecting Defensive Rookie of the year. He will have his ups and downs. Injuries happen. He can sit a few games if he's not up to speed. #1 pick or not.

    Yeah.

It's not a huge deal yet but it's a bit worrisome for two reasons:

    1) We all hoped he'd be an opening day starter, so we don't want him too far behind. Every rep he misses increases the odds he gets off to a slow start.
    2) A big hitter with concussion issues has the potential to be a scary thing going forward.

I dont like it Austin, im concerned.
    1st round pick
    position of need
    source of the injury

I dont want to rush him back, but every day missed is costing us.

This is my main concern. I don't care if he doesn't start this year, or misses half of preseason. The issue is, once you get a concussion they can start to pile up. Considering his style of play, I'm worried.

NO, this is all precaution. JETS does not want a media frenzy up their arses saying stuff about "rookie had head injury and he was rushed back into live tackling." that's all Pryor is fine

    very possible....
i assume(hoping) he is still able to line up, drop in coverage, learn assignments, etc, basically everything outside of contact.
This would be much more optimistic than him sitting in some sun hut, riding a stationary Schwinn.

No. I'm willing to bet that a large majority of players have played through concussions without any (immediate) problems. This is Pryor's first known time getting a concussion. He'll be fine. Rex and the medical staff will play it safe, as they should, since it's only preseason.

I only hope this is all so he doesn't injure any of his own guys.

Concerned? eh! A little worried, Yes. Hope it doesnt get worse or becomes an ongoing issue? YES! Freaking out like some people? NO!

I get that he is our 1st round pick but he by no means needs to be the starter right away. Landry and Allen can hold things down and a few others like Jarrett and Miles seem to be progressing. Let him heal and take his time. Rushing him back is not the answer.

Unlike last year our top picks dont need to come in and perform right away. In my mind its only bonus if they do.

The protocol is really creating the alarm here, as I think the missed time is worse for him than the medical effects (at least I hope so). As for concussions "piling up", I don't claim to know the science there but I do know that years ago the social castoffs in the media would have wrote in the paper the following day that the "rookie got his bell rung. Welcome to the NFL. Har Har Har." and nobody would have thought anything of it.

It would be interesting to go back and see if these guys that got a "bell rung" early on ended up having a higher frequency of further bell ringing events.

No. He can take as much time as he needs to get right. We'll figure out the rest when he's fully cleared.

I'm concerned if it effects his best trait, aggressiveness.

    Not concerned ... yet.

I think the Jets are just being extra cautious at this stage. There is no need to rush a rookie back to full action before the first preseason game has even been played. If Pryor gets another concussion this season, then it's time to start being concerned.
