Thread: Jeff Garcia to the Bucs

1. #1
The Gilroy Dispatch reports free agent QB Jeff Garcia (49ers) is headed to Tampa Bay to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His signing is expected to be announced at a press conference later this week and is slated to land a three- or four-year deal worth between $15 million and $20 million according to his father, Bobby Garcia. “He’s going to Florida,” said Garcia’s father. “This is a fresh start. He’s going in there with guns drawn, fully loaded. He’s going to give it his best shot. He said, ‘Dad, I’m totally committed now. This is a new step in my life.’ ” The Buccaneers, as of Monday, March 8, would not confirm or deny the deal and a spokesman for the Buccaneers said no press conference has been scheduled.

Jon Gruden is nuts and The Bucs are crazy.

They already have Brad Johnson and they drafted Chris Simms. QB is not their problem.

I love Gruden as a coach but he loves having like 5 QB's and 6 TE's on his rosters.

I don't know why you would want two over the hill quarterbacks.

Chris Simms?

Even if he only has to look at 1/2 the field, he'll STILL through a ton of picks.

Will never read NFL defenses.

Mark my words when all is said and done chris simms will be the most productive QB to come out of last years class. Leftwhich is going to be a bust and so is carson palmer. Bengals will go back to the cellar with palmer starting now..If I were kitna I would ask to be released and try and go somewher like pittsburgh or even san diego

I don't believe this post. I still believe he will sign with Cleveland within 24 hours where he will be handed a starting job.

Better for us if he signs with Tampa because then Cleveland will still be looking for a QB and may use their number one on a quarterback rather than a position player.

Although I agree that palmer will be a bust,Leftwhich is going to be a star, they threw him in there under the fire last year, with not many weapons. He got good experience and they think highly enough of him to get rid of Brunell.

On the other hand, your smoking serious tree's if you think Simms will be a player in this league, I mean cmon the guy was garbage at Texas, they woulda won 3 national titles if they had a QB that didnt have half a brain. Chris Simms is garbage and ur only kidding yourself if you think he's a starting caliber QB in the NFL.

Jeff Garcia is gonna make TB a much better team

I know this is completely off the topic but it pertains to the player himself. I have a question: Is there any truth to the rumors about Garcia? There are several rumors suggesting that Garcia is Homosexual. Personally I do not care one way or the other but is there any substance to these rumors? Something maybe I havent heard?

Now dont tell me I have a crush or something I was just curious if these rumors have any truth to them. That would be a huge story, an NFL QB who is Gay/Bi sexual. I know that he probably gets part of these rumors because of the way he talks but thats not in my opinion enough to brand him Homosexual if there is no other proof.

Garcia isn't gay. Most of the rumors stemmed from the fact that as he said "articulate, well dressed, single men in their 30s are assumed to be homosexuals in this day in age." It just really shows how ****in' wierd this country is. Also, being the QB of San Faires didn't hurt.

I never personally thought he was but the rumors just kept finding a way back to the top. I just wanted to know if any of these rumors have any merit and to me it seems like they do not.

Dude, I live in SF and Garcia is not a friend of Dorothy... whe he was pulled over for DWI he had girls in his car that he was "escorting" back to San Jose State. Jeez, some of you probably still believe we are the hippie capital as well...

Like I said...I did not believe the rumors.

You mean you're not? ;)

Either Tampa or Cleveland, I think the guy is an upgrade over what they've got now...

haha are you nuts? Leftwich proved last year as a rookie to be worthy of his draft pick. Hes the next Daunte Culpepper... I didnt see Palmer last year so idk anything bout him. I did however see Leftwich play and he got game...

There's no contract signed (yet anyway) but it looks like this will happen. Garcia wants to play for Gruden, and I think this is a great move for Tampa! He is more mobile, the type of WCO QB Gruden looks for. Last season in some games looked like Johnson was struggling in the pocket; had a a lot of interceptions...could be OL problems which Tampa has fixed by getting new guys but....Gruden was not happy with it.

Bruce Allen said the Bucs will be looking to have 5 QB's...would be getting 1 old (that's Garcia if is confirmed) and 1 young. Gruden is working with Simms, doesn't sound like he's ready to be 2nd backup yet.

there was talk that Gannon might be going there but he hasn't been released by Oakland....then some Buc fans thought maybe Vinny would return to Tampa (but he's not a good WCO fit) :)

Gruden likes Vets, it's part of his makeup...he's all into traditions, respecting and appreciating Vets, being star-struck, looking up to them etc...
