For those who have never seen the Sports Century on the immortal Secretariat, and/or are too young to remember the Greatest racehorse that ever lived, I strongly suggest you watch this tonite ... it's one of the better Sports Century's ESPN Classic has produced
Begins tonite at 11:00 PM EST ... a must see if you haven't seen it

Like the 69 Super Bowl I saw this Great Horse as his Legend
unfolded..Never will be another like him.. ;)
Couldn't agree more, savage ... if we live to be a thousand we won't ever see another horse like BIG RED
If God ever decided to make the perfect racehorse, that was surely the one

what a sham.
And Baddniss had Sham been a 3 year old in any other point in time he would have been a Triple Crown Winner..Big Red broke him down and he was never the same!! :(

Good point, guys .. Sham was a great racehorse by any normal measure ... definitely could have been a Triple Cown caliber horse ... simply had the misfortune of being born the same year as the greatest horse that ever lived, with apologies to Man'O'War
BTW, excellent play on words Badiness ... very clever stuff ;)

These young punks have no respect for true sports history!!!!!
Tell you the Truth as much as I loved Big Red I won a Bundle on
Onion at Saratoga!! ;)
While the video of his Belmont 30+length romp has been timed and clearly shattered the track record by a great deal, it's not the official record for the 1 1/2 miles at Belmont because the track clock malfunctioned that day. That picture of Turcotte looking back amazed that no one is near him is classic.

Anybody feel for Ruffian the greatest Filly of all time that's
buried at Belmont?? Match race with Honest Pleasure I believe ,
correct me if I'm wrong..I was Drunk after she broke her leg.. :(
Savage, it was foolish pleasure ... absolutely heartbreaking ... I still refuse to look at any film footage of that race till this day ... not ashamed to say it brought tears to my eyes

I was only 10 ten Ruffian broke down, but I'll never forget when Go For Wand broke down. She had a ton of heart.
I missed out on Secretariat, but was there when Go For Wand broke down. Had to take a break from racing for a while. Very traumatic.
PS, Master David will wear the roses saturday. Box him with Minister Eric, Smarty Jones, and The Cliff's Edge.
I was just a pup when Secretariat won the Triple Crown. However, I am familiar with the history of it as Turcotte was born and still lives an hour and a half "up the road" from me. What a great story ... Secretariat.
Seeing a horse in full stride break down is absolutely horrific.
I tend to not watch horse racing just for that reason.........I can't place the horse, nor race......but the horse broke both front legs......and stagggered over to the grand stand where he just collapsed. Watching the trainer over him in tears was too much.....I just can't bring myself to watch the sport as much as I'd like! i was a horse owner...just too emotional!!
Levyman, Fourstar Dave was a legend. I went to Siena 1990-94 which was Dave's prime. My college roomate also grew up 5 min from the track. I saw him win almost every August. I missed his loss in 96??? which broke his streak, but I did get to sign the get well card after he got hurt. Saratoga is the best. 2 seasons - winter and August.
