Who would you say is the leader of the Jets defense??? We lost alot of veteran leadership in the off season and im curious as to who everyone thinks the defensive leader is now....

If he lays of the Pipe and stays clean in gona say Josh Evans will lead the Jets defense this year....

This defense will be lead by the LB corp as a whole.

Barton is fiery, Hobson was the leader at Mich., we know about Vilma as a leader of UM and I think Sam will be more vocal this year.

It's going to be a refreshing change to watch.

the leader is definatly not Evans, he isnt even starting
I think it would be Hobson or Barton as the leader on D this year unless Vilma starts

I would have to say Barton as well, kind of odd since this will be his first season with the Jets.

Our LB corp will be awesome, not only because of their talent, but also because of their leadership and emotion on the field. I think our biggest weakness is either size (made up for with speed) or experience (Hobson and Vilma).

don't think you need to start to be a leader

having that presence in the locker room and showing fire when you do get on the field means alot

Vinny was a leader when he was sitting too

    "ya know what...

now that i think about it, we should just sign Junior Seau for leadership he will keep us out of the December funk we've been on this past few years"....

i think Vilma, and Hobson are too young to step up and be vocal leaders in the NY atmosphere.

    Barton is new

Evans may have lost some respect from his teammates for last years episode and then almost not restructering his deal.

Even though he had off the field problems last year I think Abe is gonna step up and become the teams leader on Defense.

I think Abe and Hobson will be the leaders. Once Vilma gets settled in, he becomes the leader of our defense, without question.

Pope is 100% right on this one. The LB corp as a group (Barton, Cowart, Vilma, Hobson) will ALL be on-field leaders, as would Tongue in the secondary and Evans (when he plays) on the Line.

While we DID lose veteran players, we DIDN'T lose veteran leadership. Both LB's (Lewis and Jones) were the "quiet and perform" types, who rarely led the D in that fiery Angry motivational kinda way. Same with lost CB Beasley, who was simply not a leader in any form.

Beyond those three, we didn;t lose any D Starters for 2004.

I think it will be Cowart initially, but by the end of the season it may be Vilma

I think Abe, and Ellis too, to an extent, aren't going to be vocal leaders personality-wise. They'll lead by perfomance, but thats about it. As Savage points out, not all great players are leaders. And thats not a bad thing. You can't have 11 chiefs and no indians.

Evans, on the other hand, is a vocal leader, but when he gets suspended, he's not real effective in that role.

I think Hobson, Vilma, and Barton will wind up being leaders, but maybe not right away. It may take a while for them to grow into that role since they're all still pretty young.
