Thread: lamont jordan

I never understood why Lamont Jordan didn't become the heir to Richie Anderson as a third down specialist. He supposedly has good hands as a receiver {he's even been put in as a wide out a few times in gimmick formations} and he looks like he's got the thump to be a excellent short yardage guy. I don't know if his problem is playing behind a Hall of Fame back as much as it is playing for a future Hall of Dunces offensive coordinator. Sometimes talent has to be developed by the coaching staff.

 I don't blame the man for complaining but we should not sign him right now...he will be a Jet in 2004 and it looks like he will get more carries...let it ride out and a decision will be made at season end...no ned to sign him now...he is still under contract for the 2004 season....I heard that rookie Rb is also opening eyes this past weekend.

Jordan will be wearing green and white in 2004.

The thing that gets me about Lamont is that last year was the year that he was going to get many more carries and in fact the guy was a ghost. I can't help but feel that the coaching staff saw something that we didn't see. If we were going to shop him then we should have seen him with a lot more carries. On the other hand...if we are planning on keeping him as the heir apparent to Curtis, wouldn't we also see him with more carries?

Something just seems funny to me about the decline in carries last year. We didn't even use him on a lot of goal line plays when that is supposed to be his strength.

I can't believe it a few months ago everybody was trading Jordan for picks in the draft or to another team for what they can get. It was me and somebody else who defended Jordan. I still believe he is a better back than Martin now. Don't get me wrong I think Curtis is and was great but age and too many hits will drain you no matter how good he looks in training camp. Some one was worrying about Lamont Fumbling, Hey even thew great CuMart had fumbled once or twice... I say give Jordan the ball and let the Pigeons loose! If we lose Jordan he's gonna make us pay

i say we bench jerald sowell and find out what bj askew has in the tank. he might be the second coming of mike alstott! sowell is old in football years! he's 30!!!!! how can we justify not playing askew! he's young! so what if we're jeopardizing the season by experimenting during games that count! we need to see what he can do! sowell is ready to buy a rocking chair already! sowell will be gone and we'll lose askew and never know what he could have done!

re: lamont

I think we'll see some askew this year, his pick was similar to the Lamont pick in that the FO didn't expect much from Sowell so they signed a young kid (drafted) and got surprised by what Sowell showed them on the field, they released an aging richie anderson and thought sowell was a stop gap which he very well may be but he played his ass off last year

it's sarcasm to show how silly this thread is. martin gained 1300 yards and everyone wants him benched. it's inane!

Hmmm Sowell is Old in Football years at the age of 30 and with
215 carries..Yet Martin is young at 31 with close to 3000 carries??
I'd love to see our rookies play and contribute including a 4th year
Guy by the name of Lamont!! ;)

i figured everyone would see it as sarcasm from the obviously over the top statements i made. guess not. i am pro martin and pro sowell. i do not want jordan or askew to get tons of playing time. it jeopardizes the team by not playing who is best right now to see what someone may or may not have. jordan's time will come. it's not now, and may not be with the jets.

I don't know if you ever had this problem as a KId but this seems
to be a Problem with the Jets as well..When I went to get a Job at
the age of 18 I was told I needed Experience..How do I get experience?
By doing the Job!! Lamont had never had a Fair chance! I bet if Both Lamont
and Martin both had a 100 carries Lamont would have more yardage,TD's
and runs over 20 yds!! Yeah I know more Fumbles..There I saved you from
writing a line!! ;)

but running back is not a position of need for the jets! if you wanna see what someone has at guard or at free safety even, i have no problem. punter even. why do we need to obsess over a position the jets are deep at? yes, curtis probably only has 2 good seasons left. yes, the jets will need to find a new starting back in the next year or two. right now martin is better. the team can always draft a back next year or sign a free agent. it's not a position the team is weak in, and i just think that to risk a season just to give a tryout to a guy, because that is essentially what it would be, is a bad idea. jordan is a good young back, but nothing spectacular. i bet you that martin would be the one with more yards than jordan over a 100 carry period. he would also have a higher average per carry, and less fumbles. everyone makes jordan out to be this great player because his physical attributes are good. how many times will people fall into that trap? martin has done it before and continues to produce at a high level. man, everyone acts like we have blair thomas at running back.

Idon't know, maybe for pure value based on the cap we are better off with sowell, but from a purely football standpoint i just like lamont jordans upside a bit more.
