I hear ya dk. A 4 spd 230sl for me ( period competition prepped please ). Most fun street car I've actually owned was a 1970 Porsche 911s. Nothing happening till 5000 rpm and then it felt like a freight train hit you from behind to 7500 rpm. A real screamer, incredible smiles. Fastest street car was my 1999 sl 500. Rated at 300 hp it was easily 400. Faster than any of the Trans Am cars I raced back in the seventies. Hit the go pedal and this thing pulled to 155mph w/o any loss of acceleration. At 155 the speed limiter kicks in and shuts down the fun. Too bad none of these cars can actually live in the real world of U.S. roads chock full of cellphone braying Starbucks sipping drivers. Toss in a de Thomaso Mangusta while you're at it.

I was always a fan of the muscle cars. Thinking back to my youth...we had a few motor heads like every town, and I will never forget Sammy (can't remember his last name)s super bee. Flat out the fastest car in town. that car could freakin' fly.

I've always had a soft spot for the 442 though.

Realistic dream car: BMW M3 or M5.

BMW Z8, or one of the old 740s before they got ugly wouldn't be bad either.

    Porsche 911 twin turbo, obviously.

I'm intrigued by the GT-40, looks sexy as hell.... but we'll see.

A buddy of mine had a 1978 TransAm, which had a 400 big block. His dad worked for Grummans in Calverton, so we would take it out on the flight line. They had radar there, and he got it up to 182 mph before throwing 2 rods. Dumb Ass.
Damn, did he blow the hood off?!

    Did he use nitrous oxide?

Yeah, that is beautiful 'Ham - I'd settle for that no problem! :D

My dream car in my teens was a Lotus Turbo Esprit. I remember going to see Basic Instinct and Sharon Stone had a pair of them, and gives Mickey D the run around in the white one. All the way back home I was talking about the cars, while my mates were going "Did you NOT see Sharon Stone's beaver??!!!"

I'm still kind of fond of the Esprit now, but they don't make them any more and a guy who owns one where I work says that although it's great to drive, he's had no end of problems with it.

I guess if I was going for an out and out supercar it would be a Lamborghini Murciélago - slightly faster than my Honda Jazz!

Actually, crap - yeah - I forgot about the classics :D

    But which one?

Gotta love the Ford GT-40 - just one of the most awesome cars ever built, but hardly suitable for everyday use. Then there's the DeLorean... not going to rust on you, but not going to go anywhere particularly fast either!

Growing up as a mesmerised Knight Rider fan, I wouldn't say no to a Transam done up like KITT - one of my workmates has built one and it's absolutely beautiful. He keeps it in his dads garage in Ireland and takes it out, like five times a year, the rest of the time he just polishes it.

Does KITT count as a classic, or are we talking real cars here!? :P
