He's wasn't tired this time. Hadn't lost too much weight too soon. Was determined to take Antonio Tarver out -- no excuses. But Roy Jones Jr. never saw Tarver's left hook at 1:41 of the second round. In a rematch of their November fight that fell Jones' way, Tarver KO'd the champion to earn the WBC light heavyweight crown.

2nd round? Damn, these PPV fights get worse and worse. You'd have to be stupid to buy it. Stealing it is different the way cable companies treat the customers like a stooges.

thats one opinion another would be that you paid to see history be made:

Jones has never lost a fight

    *the DQ doesn't count

I actually didn't see just heard about it, but it will be on HBO next week, I can't wait to see this uppercut that killed the invincible RJJR

they say it was a one punch KO

    Associated Press
LAS VEGAS -- The punch was shocking enough. The result was even more shocking.

Antonio Tarver's left hand out of nowhere stopped Roy Jones Jr. in the second round Saturday night, giving him the light heavyweight title and handing Jones the most crushing defeat of his illustrious career.

Tarver had landed only a handful of punches and seemed slow in starting when Jones threw a right hand that missed that caused him to crouch down. Tarver came out of the crouch with a roundhouse left hand that caught Jones flush on the side of his face.

Jones was knocked under the ropes in Tarver's corner, and was badly hurt even though he managed to get up at about the count of seven. But he stumbled across the ring as referee Jay Nady waved the fight to an end at 1:41 of the second round.

Tarver, who had vowed to settle a score from his loss to Jones in November, jumped around the ring in celebration as the crowd at Mandalay Bay hotel-casino went wild.

It was only the second loss of Jones' 15-year pro career, and only the second time he had ever been knocked down. His first loss was on disqualification in a fight he later avenged.

"I never gave up on my dream so here we are," Tarver said. Tarver was tight from the opening bell, warily circling Jones while his corner urged him to throw punches. Jones began landing his right hand lead midway through the first round, and it looked as if Jones was going to be the faster and stronger fighter.

In the corner after the first round Tarver said to trainer James "Buddy" McGirt: "He doesn't respect me."

"Go out and get yours," McGirt replied.

Tarver did just that, bringing the fight to a stunning end almost before it began.

Both fighters were the same age -- 35 -- but there was a wide difference in experience. Jones was in his 25th world title fight, while Tarver was fighting for a title for only the third time.
now that is worth paying to see :D

That really was shocking, imagine that he wanted to take on Klitchsko too. But got knocked out by Tarver, eek.

    I saw the fight :D

    Left-hook right on the button ... BOO-YAH!!

Roy Jones dropped like he was shot ... tried to get up at around the count of 5 and fell back down again ... then just beat the count and as he lifted himself from the canvas at the count of 9, but was walkin on his heels and stumbling around like a man who just devoured his 27th shot of scotch

The referee correctly waived his arms and stopped the fight ... correctly cause Jones was badly hurt and Tarver would have been indicted for manslaughter if you let him attack Jones in that state

Bottom Line: Jones was out cold on the way down ... only hitting the canvas {BOOM!!} woke him up ... but this was a bonified TKO in every sense of the phrase

Muh-man Tarver lowered the boom on Roy Jones ... dropped the hammer

    What happened next?

    Two Words ..... TIM-BER

Jones strugled to get up....and he did at about 8

I think he could have continued.......when the ref waived the fight off.......you could see Jones give him the look of "you have to be kidding me?"

Clean shot.......I have no respect for Tarver.

Kind of reminded me when Lennnox got whacked by Rahman......clean shot.....not the better man!!

I really believe this is completely different than Rahman. Tarver won that first fight, Jones got the decision because of his name. Tarver came into this fight flat out determined. The first round he let Roy Jones dictate, and blocked every punch. Tarver saw every single one of Roy Jones' punches. Then in the 2nd round he became the agresser, and taught Roy Jones a lesson. Perfect Punch! The man said he was going to do it, and he did. I can only respect Tarver.

I havent been so stunned since Tyson lost to Buster.

I didnt care who won but I was in a frozen state of shock when he knocked down Roy Jones. It wasnt just a knock down, Tarver DROPPED him, Jones hit the deck like a sack of potatoes.... Nearly knocked him out of the ring.

The 3rd fight should be a goody.

And who says that there's never any good news?

In my opinion, this guy is a pretty good encapsulation of everything that's wrong with professional athletes. Self-absorbed, pretty-boy putz.

    Good riddance.

There was some locker room stuff after the fight.

Don't think Roy even knew he was being filmed.....but he had some interesting comments

Saying he really wasn't motivated.....covered up an injury

Gave Tarver his due......but Roy didn't seem too upset!!

    May go back to Heavyweight

Roy WILL fight again.....maybe this motivates him

can't see how the man couldn't get motivated for this fight, he came the closest to losing in his career in the first fight

    #2
unless teh injury was to his jaw, can't see how that effected the outcome of this fight

    #3
Hopkins is fighting Oscar after his pretend fight in a few weeks
