    Terror in the Skies, Again?

    By Annie Jacobsen

    1st page-

Note from the E-ditors: You are about to read an account of what happened during a domestic flight that one of our writers, Annie Jacobsen, took from Detroit to Los Angeles. The WWS Editorial Team debated long and hard about how to handle this information and ultimately we decided it was something that should be shared. What does it have to do with finances? Nothing, and everything. Here is Annie's story.

On June 29, 2004, at 12:28 p.m., I flew on Northwest Airlines flight #327 from Detroit to Los Angeles with my husband and our young son. Also on our flight were 14 Middle Eastern men between the ages of approximately 20 and 50 years old. What I experienced during that flight has caused me to question whether the United States of America can realistically uphold the civil liberties of every individual, even non-citizens, and protect its citizens from terrorist threats.

On that Tuesday, our journey began uneventfully. Starting out that morning in Providence, Rhode Island, we went through security screening, flew to Detroit, and passed the time waiting for our connecting flight to Los Angeles by shopping at the airport stores and eating lunch at an airport diner. With no second security check required in Detroit we headed to our gate and waited for the pre-boarding announcement. Standing near us, also waiting to pre-board, was a group of six Middle Eastern men. They were carrying blue passports with Arabic writing. Two men wore tracksuits with Arabic writing across the back. Two carried musical instrument cases - thin, flat, 18 long. One wore a yellow T-shirt and held a McDonald's bag. And the sixth man had a bad leg -- he wore an orthopedic shoe and limped. When the pre-boarding announcement was made, we handed our tickets to the Northwest Airlines agent, and walked down the jetway with the group of men directly behind us.

My four-year-old son was determined to wheel his carry-on bag himself, so I turned to the men behind me and said, You go ahead, this could be awhile. No, you go ahead, one of the men replied. He smiled pleasantly and extended his arm for me to pass. He was young, maybe late 20's and had a goatee. I thanked him and we boarded the plan.

Once on the plane, we took our seats in coach (seats 17A, 17B and 17C). The man with the yellow shirt and the McDonald's bag sat across the aisle from us (in seat 17E). The pleasant man with the goatee sat a few rows back and across the aisle from us (in seat 21E). The rest of the men were seated throughout the plane, and several made their way to the back.

arab men shouldn't be allowed on airplanes?

I suspect you didn't click on the link. I can't post the whole article, but the link can get you to each next page.

The point is that common sense goes out the window-cash, one- way, single Arab males, tickets on domestic flights, bizarre behavior, obviously strange conduct. And all the "we can't profile" people are stopping law enforcement from doing it's job. These guys and their ilk should have been thrown up against the wall and interrgated before they ever got on board. 9/11 ring a bell? Those guy made dry runs to check what they could do. You get on a flight like this were the rules handcuff law enforcement and then mouth all your tired PC crap. It can't be that being ALIVE is less importnat than not being called a racist. You'll be singing a different tune at the boarding gate.

Sorry, but Profiling SHOULD and MUST be utilized to ensure the safety of the People. The fact that we are pulling 80 yr old White Grandma's in little Grandma Sweaters out of line to strip search for bombs, while the Arabic male wearing a huge heavy overcoat in midsummer is left alone is PC Bull****e.

Political Correctness will destory America. No one ever said we have a freedom from being offended in America. If you don't like being profiled, get your lazy arse off the couch and make sure YOUR racial or ethnic group STOPS doing what they Do that gets them profiled, like Blowing up Americans.

The 9-11 hijackers never took any training runs

Profiling should as WF has pointed out be a MUST. However Al Qeada is not entirely stupid and is trying to recruit non-ARABS but still when 14 Middle Eastren men get on one flight together there should be mandatory extra screening to all of them.

The bottom line is "ALL /EVERYONE who boards a plane should be checked going through enitial security & at the point of boarding a plane no-exceptions (JOE CITIZEN , MILATARY PERSONEL ,ESPECIALLY AIRLINE EMPLOYEES ) "I DON`T CARE IF I HAVE TO GET TO THE AIRPORT 4 HOURS EARLY " knowing i`m safe along with family & friends is worth the wait , don`t slack at the holidays when were most vunarable ,by know everyone knows you need to be at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight if you try to cut it closer and miss your flight cause you didn`t allow your self enough time to get through security TOO F-ing bad...you knew the rules ,as far as screeners go ,I would encourage retired HIGH SECURITY clearence MILATARY PERSONEL with in excess of 10 years milatary experience at a high security level with only the most empecable service records to apply for these jobs , If I as president in an effort to make sure my fellow americans were safe, thought that giveing them tax breaks (much like we do for large companies ) and made those jobs either income tax free or allow them to work as many hours as THEY CHOOSE with NO AFFECT ON THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY BENIFIT AMOUNT AT ALL...Our milatary is very underpaid as it is and this would be a fare exchange for the people who put their lives on the front line each and every day ,I would start will the MILATARY personel and if we needed more personel after that I would open the same offer to policemen & women and firemen & women .....
