Thread: ALCS - Game 5 Thread

1. #1
I believe I'm up there to start the Game 5 thread, so here goes. I believe there are several issues at hand that will effect today's outcome.

1 - Will the Sox be able to take any momentum out of last night's game and parlay it for another day? I believe that unlike other team sports, the game of baseball is different. Momentum ends with the new starting pitcher. However, having Pedro on regular rest is a boost for the Bosox, but the Yanks counter with a well rested Mussina. The fact that Moose will be on longer then normal rest is not an issue, as he has pitched both Game 1's on 1 week rest and pitched well.

2 - Can the Yankee bats resume their mashing of the Bosox pitching? After A-Rods 2 run blast early off Lowe, the Yanks went fairly silent for the next 9 innings last night. Will they bounce back.

3 - Who's on 1B for NY? It looks like Olerud is out for a while. Tony Clark has to pick up the slack.

4- Can these 2 teams get used to playing a game that is not on at prime time?

I am glad this one starts earlier. Let the kids see more of the game. Let me not be so tired the next morning.

Foulke and Timlin pitching as much as they did last night will mean that Pedro has to go longer. Does he step it up? That to me is the key. He really has no bridge.

Actually, both starters have to step it up and give some length for their teams. The Yanks can still call on Loiza if they need long relief. Not sur about the Bosox though. Myers? Mendoza? Embree? I guess they would try to piece together a pen' from all of them.

Not the optimum solution.

I think we will beat Pedro tonight. Mussina is well rested and did great for us last week! I'm thinking that Boston will be tired from last night and won't hit tonight.....

Max, I too am glad that tonight's game is at 5pm!!

But the Yankees will be well-rested?

On another note, the Yankees pen is not in any better shape. Mo, Tanya, and Flash all went two last night. It is imperative that both Petey and Moose go deep into this game.

The Yankees will be rested, relatively speaking. Think of how tired they were yesterday. Running the bases like that the night before. 19 runs is brutal even for high performance athletes like baseball players.

The human body can only handle so much (unless your name is TomShane, then all bets are off).

Momentum is today's starting pitcher. Boston is 6-18 in Martinez's starts versus the Yankees since June 2000.

Mussina is getting stronger. The Yanks have to break through. But the bottom of their order isn't doing anything-Sierra, Posada, Clark, Cairo. It's like automatic outs. If they don't get it done soon, it may be too late.

Infield hit, Posada.

pedro has no fastball today. all he is throwing is changeups
