...hit you in the ass on your way out!

Americans flock to Canada's immigration Web site
Reuters ^ | By David Ljunggren

OTTAWA (Reuters) - The number of U.S. citizens visiting Canada's main immigration Web site has shot up six-fold as Americans flirt with the idea of abandoning their homeland after President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s election win this week.

"When we looked at the first day after the election, November 3, our Web site hit a new high, almost double the previous record high," immigration ministry spokeswoman Maria Iadinardi said on Friday.

On an average day some 20,000 people in the United States log onto the Web site, www.cic.gc.ca -- a figure which rocketed to 115,016 on Wednesday. The number of U.S. visits settled down to 65,803 on Thursday, still well above the norm.

Bush's victory sparked speculation that disconsolate Democrats and others might decide to start a new life in Canada, a land that tilts more to the left than the United States.

Would-be immigrants to Canada can apply to become permanent resident, a process that often takes a year. The other main way to move north on a long-term basis is to find a job, which requires a work permit.

But please spare the sob stories.

Asked whether an applicant would be looked upon more sympathetically if they claimed to be a sad Democrat seeking to escape four more years of Bush, Iadinardi replied: "There would be no weight given to statements of feelings."

Canada is one of the few major nations with an large-scale immigration policy. Ottawa is seeking to attract between 220,000 and 240,000 newcomers next year.

"Let's face it, we have a population of a little over 32 million and we definitely need permanent residents to come to Canada," said Iadinardi. "If we could meet (the 2005) target and go above it, the more the merrier."

But right now it is too early to say whether the increased interest will result in more applications.

"There is no unusual activity occurring at our visa missions (in the United States). Having someone who intends to come to Canada is not the same as someone actually putting in an application," said Iadinardi.

"We'll only find out whether there has been an increase in applications in six months."

The waiting time to become a citizen is shorter for people married to Canadians, which prompted the birth of a satirical Web site called www.marryanamerican.ca.

The idea of increased immigration by unhappy Americans is triggering some amusement in Canada. Commentator Thane Burnett of the Ottawa Sun newspaper wrote a tongue-in-cheek guide to would-be new citizens on Friday.

"As Canadians, you'll have to learn to embrace and use all the products and culture of Americans, while bad-mouthing their way of life," he said.

This gets better by the day! :D

By the way, if a liberal couple like Rosie O'Donnell and Michael Moore were to go to Canada and have a Canadian born "anchor baby", that kid would NOT be an automatic Canandian citizen........

You see, unlike the idiots in the U.S, the Canadians figured out folks were using this scam to gain citizenship and did away with it a long time ago!

These elitist liberal clowns aren't going anywhere. Even though Canada is socialist, the Hollyweird elites won't want to pay Canada's high taxes.

What can I do to help them expedite the process?

Actually, I really hope they stay. After all, who'll be here to repeat the same flawed strategies in 2008.

In our school paper, the opinion column printed two articles about each candidate winning(they didnt have offical results in when they printed it).

The one for Kerry discussed how a change in this country was needed and the people made the right choice and blah blah blah.

The one for Bush just gave directions to Vancouver.

I thought it was pretty unfair to praise one guy and to give reasons why electing him in was good, but the same shouldve been done for both candidates IMO. Granted, it was pretty funny and I hope a lot of these idiots that think this country is f*cked follow those directions, but I wouldve liked to see an informative article at this point.

Savage, the one thing I hate more than liberals, is RiNO's or political hacks of any party that dismiss the very strong will of the American people. On illegal immigration the American people have spoken and there is no "gray area". Poll after scientific poll shows over 80% of the American people (including 75% of Democrats) want to put an end to this nonsense here and now.

Every once of bashing I aimed towards Bush on the issue was richly deserved. The reason I get on Bush more than Kerry is 2 fold: 1) Bush has actually been in power since 2000 2) More importantly, Bush is supposed to be the "conservative" and should start acting like one.

Still, as the election drew closer, I realized (or hoped) that there was a difference between the Republican Party and a Democrap Party that's gone so far to the left, they are off the map. I backed off my bashing of Bush for a while on this issue. I still expect him to do the right thing.

Honestly, I think it's about time Bush tells Katy Couric, The New York Times, The CATO Inst., McCain and his group of gay Rino's to F' off and go away.....If this cabal of "lefties" and "cheap labor loving righties" had any guts at all, they'd reside in Laredo, Tx; Douglas, Az. or Santa Ana, CA--devasted by illegal immigration. No, these elite F*cks live in the Hamptons, loving their "cheap labor" surfs, while the rest of America foots their bills and takes on the social costs (overcrowding, crime, ect.)

Did you notice how "giddy" that slimeball liberal George Stephanoplous was on ABC on election night every time Nevada and Arizona came up and he mentioned "immigrants" (he meant illegals  ) changing the politics of that area? I thought this puke was going to have change his pants or wear a diaper, every time he mentioned these lawbreakers ability to help the democraps.

Stephanopolus, a coward that got a stalking restraining order against a student of his---an unarmed teenage college girl, is symbolic of a looney liberal that is willing to sell out America's future for a few votes. Him and the liberals realize that an impoverished, uneducated American populace stripped of it's dignity, will look towards gov't to address their misery brought on by poverty. When that happens, they reckon, the Democrats will be back in power.

P.S: By the way, to the pukes that claim immigration control is driven by "hate", take this in your pipe and smoke it up your ***: Arizona's Prop.200 (targeting illegal aliens) was approved by 47% of "Hispanic" voters and nearly 70% of American Indians ( a large group in Az.) last week....This isn't only about race, as the "liberal-anarchist" want you to believe. It's about keeping America a beautiful, soverign nation, not a cesspool to bring about communisim (the left) or a "flop-house" for cheap labor (right--McCain; CATO Inst.).

    *******

    Rewind--George Stephanopolus, a coward that got a stalking restraining order against a student of his---an unarmed teenage college girl........ :D  :P B) :P :D  B) :P :D  ;)  :D

No one's unwelcomed in this country... it one of our biggest flaws. Anyone running North is doing so on their own. They sincerely believe the load of crap the Dems have laid out in regards to the current president and are truly afraid of this country's direction. I feel badly for them... all the more reason to welcome them.

You're not unwelcome here, but jerks who think they're better off in Canada b/c Bush won aren't!

believe me, no teenage girl is unarmed-- they have lots of weapons at their disposal, not the least of which is simply their word in print or broadcast against a public figure.

or are you insinuating that a non-coward would have just beat the sh!t out of her?

GJ & H, unless Barack Obama runs for the democratic ticket, I can come close to guarenteeing that I will be voting Republican, especially if Guliani is on the ballot. I have a bad feeling that Hillary Clinton will be running, and as much as I'd be happy to see Bill Clinton in the White House again in any facet, I could not bring myself to vote for her.
