Democrats And Republicans - The Difference

Something dawned on me during the Terry Schiavo event about Democrats which I really put together after seeing Americans response to Hurricane Katrina.

Democrats have this mutual acceptance of failure. Democratic leaders expect-accept failure from their constituents and democrats themselves expect-accept failure from their party leaders.

What went wrong in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina started in the Louisiana Governors office. She should have yielded to Bush and let the federal government take over. Nagin was literally up to his eyeballs with water and Blanco was in over her head as well.

People blow off the New Orleans evacuation busses issue like it was nothing. It was everything.

Democratic party leaders are no more than clerks and auditors. They are not leaders. Their constituents do not expect them to be leaders. Democrats immediately went over the heads of Nagin and Blanco and went straight to Bush. Democrats DO NOT expect Nagin or Blanco to solve their problems – this is something that I’m certain few Republicans realize – hoperfully they realize it now.

Look at Alabama and Mississippi. Lots of problems there but those states have Republican Governors.

Look at Texas. Their post Hurricane efforts are spectacular. They have a Republican Governor.

Talking heads on the news continue to speculate that President Bush appoint Rudy Guialianni or Colin Powell to head relief efforts in the Gulf. Both Republicans. There’s a major leadership vacuum in Louisiana – no one would suggest Guialianna or Powell or anyone take charge if there wasn’t.

The disaster in Louisiana is entirely on the shoulders of Louisiana Governor Blanco.

Like Chris Matthews asked on his TV show yesterday morning “How come President Bush can’t blame the (Louisiana) Governor (even though he has reason to)?” Answer is: Bush can’t. People expect Republican Bush to lead and Democrat Blanco to screw things up.

The differrence between the current group of Republicans & Democrats in office is pretty simple. The Republicans actually attemt to do some things. Some of it turns out good and some of it turns out bad. The Democrats do absolutely nothing and critisize everything.

the difference is that while both parties are incompetant the Republicans control every area of government, executive, both houses of congress and the supreme court. the democrats are powerless sideline observers.

You underestimate the power of their monkey wrench.
