Last year safety LaRon Landry decided to sign a one-year deal with the Jets so he could prove his worth on the open market this offseason. At the time LaRon told reporters that his big brother Dawan was a big reason why he decided to sign with the Jets. LaRon’s brother Dawan Landry had played for Rex Ryan in Baltimore and he told his younger brother that he would be a perfect fit in Ryan’s defense.
A year later LaRon cashed in on his one-year showcase audition, signing a four-year $24 million deal with the Colts, and his brother Dawan found himself unemployed after being released from the Jaguars, which brought it all back full circle for the elder sibling as he has now officially reunited with his first NFL coach.
According to multiple reports Dawan has agreed to a deal with the Jets, his younger brother confirmed news of the deal with a congratulatory tweet, “My big bro just sent me a text saying ‘Jet life to da next life’.. congrats big bro.”
With the Jets losing LaRon, Yeremiah Bell and Eric Smith this offseason they desperately needed to add a capable safety to the roster in free agency and will likely look to the draft to add another one at some point setting up some sort of rotation of Dawan, Antonio Allen, Josh Bush and whoever they draft (or sign in free agency if they don’t draft one of the safeties they like.
Dawan isn’t the same knockout style safety as his brother but he is a solid and capable safety that is already familiar with Ryan’s defensive schemes, which puts a lot of pressure of the safeties to know their assignments.
