Coach Herm Edwards addressed the media today following the team’s 16-13 opening night loss on Thursday to the Washington Redskins. His first issue was the status of starting FS Jon McGraw who suffered a concussion.

“McGraw is feeling better today” said Edwards, “He should be ready to go next week”.

McGraw was injured during the second quarter of Thursday’s game after a collision with Redskins TE Robert Royal. He left the game under his own power but did not return. Other than McGraw, the team reported no other injuries during the game.

The Jets completed a few roster moves today by again releasing QB Marquel Blackwell and re-signing QB Jamie Martin. The reason for the quarterback shuffle was due to an NFL rule that makes the team responsible for paying the entire year’s salary to a veteran of 4 years or more. By not having Martin (an 11 year Vet) on the roster for the first game, they are only responsible for paying him for as long as he is on the team or 1/16 of his $775K per week. When Pennington returns from his injury, Martin is likely to be released again.

The team also announced that they have signed offensive tackle Will Ofenheusle to the practice squad. Ofenheusle, a 6-6, 308-pound offensive tackle originally signed with the Club as a rookie free agent from the University of Tennessee on May 2, 2003. He was waived on September 3, prior to the season opening game. To make room for Ofenheusel, the team released G Brandon Moore from the practice squad.

The Coach has given the players the weekend off to rest and will resume practice on Monday. The team will be preparing for their home opener on September 14th against their bitter division rival, Miami Dolphins.
