The Jets were back on the practice field this morning and had to feel a little better about their situation after watching the Pats get decimated by the Bills and the Dolphins losing to the expansion Texans at home yesterday.

The team was upbeat and looked fluid in practice. Jon McGraw (concussion) was back participating and seemed to show no ill effects of his head blow suffered last Thursday. Also on the field and participating was QB Jamie Martin who re-signed this morning. Martin will be the third QB behind Brooks Bollinger on Sunday.

During Coach Edwards’ press conference, he mentioned the team would be working extensively this week on better success on third down and also spreading the field more. Vinny was seen throwing downfield on several occasions during practice. Despite Edwards’ saying that the team would open it up more this week, he denied the team’s gameplan against Washington was too conservative. “We had a plan. I'll put it this way: If we go down and kick the field goal to win the game, it's a heck of a play, it's a heck of a plan. But we don't. So now it's, "You guys are conservative, You didn't do this." That's okay. There's a reason why you do things.”

Edwards went on: “Going in, we felt, "This is what we have to do. We’ve got to hit these plays because if we don't hit them, then it's going to look like you sat on the ball. That's what it's going to look like."

Edwards was happy with the play of veteran DT Chester McGlockton. McGlockton, who was in for 18 plays was in the face of the QB several time and did a good job of freeing defensive ends John Abraham and Shaun Ellis who both had two sacks each. “He really did a nice job. He's getting in shape. Feels good about hismself.” Said Edwards on “The Glock” “He got in there and did some good things. He disrupted, you know, got some push. That helps the ends. It always helps the ends when you got a guy pushing up front like that, because they can come around the side and make some plays.” Edwards is hoping he can eventually get McGlockton in the game for at least 25 plays.

The team has off tomorrow and goes back to work on Wednesday. Besides the McGraw concussion, Pennington is the only person on the Jets injury list.
