In a bit of a surprising move the Jets announced the release of WR/KR Albert Johnson.
The Jets announced Tuesday that wide receiver/kick returner Albert Johnson was released.
Johnson, a 5-9, 190-pound WR from SMU was is in his first season with the Jets and his third season in the NFL. Johnson played for the Miami Dolphins in both 2001 and 2002, but saw each of his first two seasons end prematurely due to knee injuries.
He signed with the Jets on April 14, 2003 as an exclusive rights free agent. In the Jets first game of the season against the Washington Redskins, Johnson had two kickoff returns for 50 yards, with a long return of 29 yards.
The only other kickoff returner on the roster who has been practicing at the position is RB Lamont Jordan. The team may try WR Jonanthan Carter at the position or possibly sign another player. Rooke WR Cecil Moore who is on the pracice squad is also a possiblility.
