Inept Jets lose to Cowboys, fall to 0-4

In another anemic performance, the NY Jets remained winless and lost to the Dallas Cowboys 17-6. The team made virtually no plays on either side of the ball and also made another unknown running back look like the second coming of Jim Brown.

Bill Parcells made it 2-0 this year against his former teams and won his second consecutive game at Giants Stadium by beating the hapless Jets 17-6. For Jets fans it was another game that was incredibly painful to watch. The offense, after driving down the field on their first possession and scoring a field goal, was virtually non existent for the remainder of the game. The Jets running game was again putrid, managing only 66 total yards and a 2.5 yard per carry average. QB Vinny Testaverde played a decent game by competing 21 of 29 passes for 219 yards but again couldnít get the team into the end zone. The Jets have only scored three touchdowns all season.

The game featured absolutely no big plays on either side of the ball by the Jets. For another week the run defense was awful. Parcells knew the Jets were weak against the run and he exploited it. The Cowboys rushed the ball for 202 yards and the porous Jets run defense made Dallas RB Troy Hambrick look like Emmitt Smith in his prime. Hambrich rushed for 127 yards and scored in the second quarter on a 31 yard dash where he was untouched right up the middle. Hamrick's TD gave Dallas a 7-3 lead and bascially you could have turned off your TV at that point.

Former Jets FB Richie Anderson also tormented his former teammates by rushing for 37 yards on 5 carries and gaining an additional 46 yards receiving.

No way to sugarcoat it Jets Fans, things are bad. The team is playing like they are sleepwalking and there seems to be no veteran leadership or enthusiasm on this squad. Today is the first time I can remember in years that I can think of absolutely no positive aspects of the game to hold me over to the next one.

Despite this teamís losses of personnel through free agency and injury, the Jets should no way be 0-4. Remember the last time the team was 0-4? It was 1996. Rich Kotite was the Coach, and the team finished 1-15. If some people on this squad (coaches and players) donít light some fire under the others then we could be looking a reprise of í96. The whole Jets organization should be embarrassed and ashamed tonight.

The Jets now have their bye week and return home on October 12 to face Buffalo. BTW: Is the Jets season lost? If you are a betting man, history say to bet the ranch. Of the 161 NFL teams that have started a season at least 0-4, only the 1992 San Diego Chargers finished with a winning record. The Chargers went 11-5 and became the only NFL team to start 0-4 and make the playoffs.
