Pennington injury status upgraded

For the first time since Chad Pennington injured his left wrist on August 23rd, his game status was upgraded from “out” to “doubtful” for this week’s game against the Bills.

Coach Edwards announced in his press conference this morning the upgrade in status for Pennington. “He (Pennington) made the list this week. Doubtful. That’s a good thing. Better than out.” Said Edwards.

The upgrade was purely due to the fact that Pennington participated in drills this week. There is no chance he will play and he will not be active for the game. However, for most Jets fans mentally it’s a whirlwind of good news and hope. Pennington today again practiced by participating in throwing drills with a protective glove on his injured hand. Although Edwards made no updated projections on Pennington’s return, several published reports have said that he may be back earlier than expected. Maybe as soon as October 27 against Philadelphia.

John Abraham returned to practice today, a week after he was arrested for DWI. Edwards did not say whether or not Abe will play this Sunday but if he sits, Bryan Thomas will get his first NFL start. CB Donnie Abraham (shoulder) is out and LB Jason Glenn (ankle) is probable.

The Jets defensive backs are feeling a little less pressure with the word that Bills superstar WR Eric Moulds might be on the shelf this weekend. Moulds injured his groin against the Bengals last week and is doubtful for this Sunday. Moulds is Bills’ QB Drew Bledsoe’s favorite target and had 9 catches for 99 yards last week. Other Bills on the injury list are RB Sammy Morris (abdomen) who is out and DT Sam Adams (ankle) who is questionable.
